one, its being made to be more of an issue than it actually is because people like to jump on bandwagons. as a percentage of population, trans are small, and as a percentage of mis-understanding police (or public involvement), this doesn't happen often.
two, since there is no actual standard for what constitutes 'trans' in the first place, people are not happy about the potential for abuse. Depending on what IC clinic you go to, they'll either do the blood work for you there or give you an order to take somewhere else for insurance purposes. They have an endo there that specifically does HRT. The clinic I'm thinking about going to is pretty tumblr tier so you can literally walk out with a script the same day of your appointment if you get your blood work faxed in.
