>rennaisance takes place in literally the most Catholic country in Europe
>the most advanced structures of their time were churches and cathedrals
>most great rennaisance artists were commissioned to create religious works

Can we let this r/atheism meme die already?

Le dark ages is a myth propogated by Jewish academics to delegitimize the prospect of Christendom.

In reality, the middle ages saw the maintenance and growth of literacy, flourishing agricultural technology, and some of the worlds best metaphysicians and philosophers.

Atheist here. I'm actually very interested in finding out if this has any truth to it. Just not sure where to look.

The dark age doesn't exist ,and the Medieval church sure as hell wasn't the super power that just want to collect taxes and enslave the people it is depicted.
Slavery ,,that was a roman thing ,was abolished in the middle age. Women's right were huge as well ,because of the celtic culture and the abandonment of the Roman law ,which put women as barely humans(funnily enough ,this was dug up in the renaissance and it went to shit for them)
Literacy and instruction grew a lot ,and it wasn't reserved to the aristocracy ,but was open to everyone via the clergy.
Mechanization started to happen ,with the developments of wind and water mills. Metal and woodworking was better ,so was architecture.
Europe went through a demographic boom in the 11th century thanks to viking agriculture techniques. The church wasn't that powerful either since Kings and nobles had enourmous influence. People regularly bathed because of roman heritage. The whole "medieval peasant was dirty and illiterate comes from the actual renaissance ,after the plagues and people believing water to propagate the plagues.
Same with the Inquisition (and that's even debatable ,since most cases ended in forgiveness ,because you don't burn someone for heresy or being a pagan) and actual secular court did most of the witches burning ,since witches don't exist in actual Christian mythology.
There is so many things wrong with ideas about the middle ages. Fucking Enlightenment faggots and their dumb propaganda

Obligatory because it's true.

*Dark Ages* is actually a somewhat relevant and adequate name if you're concerned with the history of various fields of humanities inbetween the Classical Rome and Renaissance ages, like Petrarch was really referring to when he coined the term, and not actual 'living conditions', or 'science progression' (which really didn't stagnant or deflate from the Classical era), which he couldn't really introspectively known unless he went around Europe looking up accurate consensus data at monasteries or government buildings. Though it could be argued that there wasn't really much cool-shit that went on as far as Literature, drama, and a lot of the other arts after the Latin Golden age and early Silver age during the Roman period that he thought.

What really is a flat-out lying meme pressed by Progressives is 'Arabs preserving the Greek classics / classical texts", as:

1. It was only certain Greek philosophy and science that were interested in and translated, not poetry or any other kind of prose.
2. They never got to a point where they only existed in their hands or manuscripts of particular texts only survive from sources belonging to them.
and most important of all
3. It was still around in the Byzantine East and even later in the Ottoman occupied East. The Latinized West still had the same surviving texts of Aristotle as we do now, it was only Plato that it's believed that they possibly only had one translated dialogue surviving in circulation until later on, while the East had the rest.

What is true about details concerning the meme is that the Muslim Middle-East did write commentary and scholarship on Greek philosophy which the Latin West was inspired by, and there was Andalusians who translated the Platonic dialogues into Latin that revived their popularity in the West.

The middle ages were a period of severe economic depression in Europe due to a conflict between civilizations, without any of them having clear hegemony:

>Invading Muslim caliphates.
>Invading mongol empire.
>Vikings belligerent incursions.
>European pagan tribes belligerent incursions.

Once Catholicism asserted itself as the dominant culture, Europe quickly entered the renaissances period, and thrived on all fields.

Up until today, most of the scientific discoveries that have benefited humanity, arouse from Christian countries, many of them from priests and monks themselves.

>dark ages
>Catholicism
Is the most jewish meme of all time.
