Do you guys think IQ is at least partially determined by race?
Ever since I read the studies that people link to on here, especially the Minnesota study, I have believed that conclusively race determines IQ.
However, after learning about East Asian education culture and things like stereotype threat, esp. the Claude Steele study, I'm not so sure. What do you guys think?
Well, let's see. What do we know to be determined by genetics? Height, hair color, eye color, nose size, hand size, eye size, lip size, oh wait EVERYTHING. So why the hell wouldn't IQ be partially determined by race?
Also, when we brought slaves to America we selected for the dumb blacks that fell for our stupid tricks. There are smart blacks - they're just either in Africa or they immigrated to America out of their own free will and not because they were captured.

I honestly believe that IQ affects your every day choices. I also honestly believe someone with a 130 IQ will never score 140 on an online test. It is mostly processing speed, if you were to give a person with a 120 IQ the same task as a person with a 140 IQ the person with the 120 IQ will take substantially longer doing it.

I've seen studies on the IQ of adoptive children compared to birth children in the same household. At the first, the IQs correlate pretty strongly between these children, but once they reach adulthood, the correlation is something like 0.05, which indicates that their IQs were almost not at all changed by their shared household environment. It only makes sense to me that this should apply to racial groups as well. I don't think cultural differences and poverty would cause black (with ~20% white admixture) IQs to be 15 points lower than white IQs.

Where are you getting this from? The correlation of intelligence in biological twins actually increases when they reach adulthood. Presumably because at tthat age you can select an environment suitable to your intelligence and abandoning the grip of your parents.

how do you explain the fact that IQ scores have been steadily increasing irrespective of race if intelligence is determined by genetics?

The test itself may be getting easier. There are still small effects from nurture such as nutrition etc. You seem to think that intelligence is 100% determined by genes. Nobody claims that.

The beauty of intelligence is that it affects so many things. Taking measures to prevent health risks, providing adequate food supply for yourself and your loved ones (with whom you share some of your genes): see where I am getting at?
