Really, there is a mix of causes.
One is, that those countries, and their people, really tend to have problems to create and maintain some order and organization as society, you can see this specially in some countries of Africa that after colonialist countries left, instead use all the good things that those countries left behind, they started to create problems from nothing, slaughter themselves based on religious, ethnic, cultural issues.
They started to have problems that in developed countries we had centuries ago, ruthless, and with very low probabilities of making that shit up through diplomacy.
It's true that western corporations and interests, have been using those internal conflicts, giving crumbs to the local people (few money, weapons, or shit like that) to rape all the resources from those countries and keep the business alive.
The thing is most people of western countries, although we consume products, and just live our lifes, don't support that, but we also haven't any real opportunity of do something against some of the largest corporations around the world, no matter who we vote, no matter who we do, we are practically obliged to in any moment, buy them basic products.
So, we are not responsible or, at least, we don't have to suffer our countries being fucked up, for facts made by those corporations.

There are 7.4 billion people in the world. 3 billion in china, two billion in india and 1 billion in africa, and latin america has some half a billion. Most of these under increasinly bad conditions. Europe (Even the poor parts) + the US and canada have barelly more than a billion.
There is simply not enough space in the developed world to house all the poor people. And what makes some migrants special? What gives them the right to leave that their fellow miserable don't have? Traditionally, the west has taken only the best. This is called brain drain, and leaves poor countries in an even worse situation, where the people who would improve their society leave.
Less immigration keeps europe stable, causes less brain drain, is fairer to those who stay. More immigration does the opposite, and solves nothing.
