A study was done after John Schnatter, founder of Papa John's Pizza, came out very vocally against any minimum wage. $15 / hour would increase the price of a pizza by 25 cents.

Meanwhile the corporation spent several million dollars last year on their Indy car and John bought himself another yacht.

Making the jump from $7.25 to $15 is fucking bonkers and I thought the same thing even when I was making minimum wage for eight years.

The only people who make minimum wage are the ones who are dispensable in their environments, and who also usually don't work full time or haven't been working full time for over half a year...

...You raise the minimum wage from 10 to 15, and for every two people paid, it will be the equivalent of paying for three, even though they're still doing the work of only two people. So, if a big company spends 10 million a year paying all their dishwashers (lets say), all of a sudden they're paying 15 million for the same.

This is going to mean less jobs, no doubt about it. CEOS and people running everything will be far more inclined to seek alternatives to employees in order to save cash. They may just lay off a third of their staff and have a machine replace them, say, a giant dishwasher machine at restaurants, or screens like you see in >>74062601, etc.

If people make shit minimum wage then taxpayers will subsidize them via social welfare programs.

If people make better minimum wages, consumers will subsidize them and the wage slaves will theoretically not rely on social welfare as much.

Of course, social welfare spending and taxes will never decline so I am sure there won't be any obvious effects.

Lots of places that have high turnover rate for employees, fast food places, gas stations, etc etc will probably move to being entirely automated. This will be a change similar to service boys at gas stations being slowly phased out.

minimum wage will be 15 bucks, sure, but no job that used to be readily available will be there anymore. Stockboy positions will be filled by a single robot that works 24/7.

Can't find the graph but the maximum minimum wage has ever been (inflation adjusted) is $10. Raising it to $15 would not only be a shock as it is doubling the price of labour in such a short time but it would also be putting it to 150% of the highest labour has ever cost, and that in the age of technology is gunna cause some VERY fast automation.

These uneducated minwage retards are gunna turn their $8 an hour into 0$ when they get replaced by an ATM machine.
>>
>>74067290
pretty much this. most jobs are not worrh 15 an hour. go to any other country and the jobs are filled by kids so they dont need such a high amount per month, but here in the usa you will hardly ever see a kid in retail, fast food, etc anymore. its all mud 30-40 somethings who are doing this for a living and trying to support a family.
>>
Prices would go up slightly, but since the lower wage bracket would push up a lot of people, average living affordability would go up as well.
Naturally, living affordability would go down for everyone who is already above minimum wage.
It's a communistic idea, but a good one.

The real minimum wage is always going to be zero. Let me explain.

A company hires employees for one reason and one reason only: To increase the profit of the company. Examples:

- A supermarket hires an extra part time cashier for $6.000 per year. The extra customers this cashier serves generate revenue higher than $6.000.
- A garage hires an extra mechanic for $45.000 per year. The extra cars he is able to fix, minus the cost for parts, generate upwards of $45.000
- A software company hires an engineer who is proficient in Python for $150.000 per year. Because of this extra engineer they can launch their app ahead of their competition, who were working on a similar project, and score a large market share. Their app now generates millions while otherwise it might have been worthless.

If the expected added value of the cashier was lower than $6.000 for the cashier, or $45.000 for the mechanic, or $150.000 for the software engineer, the companies WOULD NOT HAVE HIRED THEM.

When you raise the minimum wage, the equation changes. If the cashier now costs $9.000 but the expected added value is only $8.000, the cashier is out of a job. The truth is, most jobs that pay minimum wage don't generate enough value to justify $15 an hour.

The employees in question now fall into one of two categories:

1) He is expendable and will be fired. The company continues without him
2) He is vital to the company but doesn't generate enough value. The company will have to operate at a loss. Waiters in a restaurant are a fine example hereof. I'll expand on this later.

The media loves to paint the picture that the only people suffering from a minimum wage increase are multi-millionaires with monocles, cigars and multiple yachts, but the hard truth is that many minimum wage employees work for small businesses who simply cannot afford a 50-60% wage increase. There simply isn't enough for these people to go around.

It will cause a bankruptcy wave of biblical proportions. (1/2)
>>
increasing the minimum wage will decrease the demand for labor and increase the supply of workers leading to a surplus known as unemployment. that's straight from economics 101. i really hope everyone already knew this and i'm only the first one to say it just because it's so obvious.
>>
>80% of jobs paying below 20$-hour are going to be automated

A Seattle restaurant owner wrote an article on the matter which can be read in full here: https://ecomcrew.com/seattles-15-minimum-wage-is-driving-our-restaurant-out-of-business/#pq=5cCXEp

The breakdown is as follows:

Restaurants aren't super profitable. Any profit they do have is usually set aside to pay back loans. The breakdown of the expenses is usually as follows:

25-40% food cost
30-35% labor
15-25% rent plus utilities

On the low side, this equals 70%, leaving 30% profit. On the high side, this equals 100%, leaving very little profit. The low end is a very conservative estimate, since once of the most popular restaurants in the area has reported a margin of only 5% (Tom Douglas).
At the time of writing, Seattle had a $9,32 minimum wage, which has increased to $13 per January 2016 (a 39% increase), and is going to be increased further to $15 per January 2016 (a 61% increase). Simple math shows us that, all else being equal, the expenses would come to

25-40% food cost
42-49% (2016) or 48-56% (2017) labor
15-25% rent plus utilities

Adding up to 82-114% (2016) or 88-121% (2017).

It should be clear to see that this will put many. many restaurants out of business. The owner could give people fewer hours (negating the wage increase), but he cannot do this infinitely. The effect is that many owners will not even be able to ever recoup their initial investment, let alone generate any profit. Many will simply disappear.

The inevitable counter argument is that people in employment now will have more to spend, increasing the cash stream in the entire economy. Even if this were true (which it isn't. Most will simply be laid off), any noticable effect would take years. These businesses don't have years. They may not even have months.

Churchill called private enterprise the 'sturdy horse pulling the wagon' and he was right. But if you keep increasing the horses' load, he won't be able to pull it any further and the wagon will come to a standstill. (2/2)

>>
>>74069186
Minimum wage is all relative to the cost of living. The issue is not low-wage jobs themselves, but that everyone are trying to live in the most sentralized areas. In theory it should balance it self by incentivizing people with lower income to move out to ares where living is cheaper, but it's now obvious that people just wan't to live in the city no matter what.

I don't know if its because people are tricked to believe in the Hollywood jew that living in cities is the ultimate dream or because development of areas outside of cities is fucked.

Because minimum wage turns employment into a buyer's market where no assessment is made on a worker's worth to the company.

Furthermore, companies are freed from having to set competitive wages to draw in the best workforce because everyone's offering the same salaries, so people who are probably worth more than minimum wage are being kept on shit rates because employers have absolutely no pressure to give pay-rises and can just dangle the slim prospect of a promotion above the heads of their MinWaggers.

minimum wage isn't for adults
it's for high school kids, college students, and people with like 3+ roommates.

if you live alone, or with your family/wife, and are above the age of 25 and still working minimum wage you are an utter failure and deserve to crash and burn.
it's really not that hard to move up from minimum wage.

When you raise the minimum wage to $15 you raise everything as well. People who were already making $15/hr will now want $25/hr etc because WTF, their job is now a minimum wage position?

What do you think will happen if you take away welfare?

Welfare is given to poor people so that they don't break into your house and rob you at gunpoint.

It's for your benefit.

And before you say something stupid like "well I'll just shoot them lol" remember that there are more of them than you.
>>
>>74061407
Like all of the great Socialist tenets, Living Wage or $15/h is essentially selfishness and short-sightedness masquerading as high-minded philanthropy.

The proponents of the minimum wage increase are mostly people who are currently working minimum wage jobs. You ask them why they support it and they spin you a yarn of the rights of workers to work for an honest wage.

However, the second you start pointing out the long-term impacts of such a change, their selfishness shines through.

Point out to them that increased minimum wages will cause small businesses to sink. They shrug their shoulder.s

Ask them why employers will hire unexperienced workers for the same wage as people who have done jobs for decades. They shrug their shoulders.

Ask them why companies will keep on as many people who could cost twice as much. They have no idea.

These people don't give a fuck about anyone else but themselves. Any argument against minimum wage will be met with "BUT I WANT MORE MONEY!!!!"
>>
>>74072886
>What do you think will happen if you take away welfare?
People will get to fucking work is what will happen. Welfare makes people lazy and dependent. Responsibility makes them productive.

>remember that there are more of them than you

>>
>>74073313
>The welfare state is actually set to increase dramatically in most European countries over the next decade

How long can that possibly be sustained though? I mean from all the stuff I've read all the migrants, refugees or whatever you want to call them take out a hell of a lot more from the system than they put back in.

So where does it end? Are they just going to tax the people who actually do work to the extent that they can't afford to live and have to go on welfare and then nobody is working and everyone is just getting free money but money isn't actually being made and then the whole country collapses..
>>
>>74073313
I like how you didn't refute anything I said in that post. Also, you're an idiot. Just because something is going to happen, automatically means it's the correct way? Is this what British education has come to?

The human race survived without any form of government induced welfare for millennia, but now it's suddenly THE ONLY way to keep poor people from stealing my TV and culturally enriching my wife?

There is a great amount of people on welfare because it is the easiest way. If faced with the choice between starvation, a life of crime or trying harder to find a job/other legitimate way to provide, most will choose the latter. Maybe some will try and take my stuff but to paint this as a 1:1 relation is preposterous.
>>

People who actually are for this $15 min wage are just bums who have no actually skill sets to further themselves in a working environment. Cali fag here. $15 minimum wage will absolutely kill jobs and businesses here. But IMO that's a good thing, too many people and businesses here to begin with. Instead of building all these business they should be building houses.

I mean you pass by all these shitty businesses that are only there because they use low wages to fuck employees, imo if you cant afford paying your workers a descent wage, then you shouldn't exist.

I never said that anywhere. People should be paid a decent wage, but California is way over populated to begin with, too many fucking illegals walking around living here, too many mexicans and other immigrants working their shit wage jobs driving up rent for everoyne else. Maybe if they raised the wages they will lose their jobs and fuck off somewhere else.

Rent prices would plummet. You won't be able to have all these jobs when the hourly wage is raised. Why? Because like I said, a lot of these businesses only exist because they are allowed to pay low wages.

You don't need 4 fucking types of printing stores on 1 street, how has that happened? Well when they are paying their employees the bare minimum, they can keep afloat. But hopefully all these stupid businesses will go away.

This is a good thing, go ahead, raise the minimum wage, and watch thousands of jobs die with it. They need to be killed is what im saying.
