The attached graphic boils down to 6 misleading points. We will examine each one, separately, as to illustrate how they're misleading:

• CANADA'S MIDDLE CLASS HAS SURPASSED THE UNITED STATES'?

This is a most interesting claim, mainly because the source routinely cited to substantiate it didn't technically show this in their data. "The income data were compiled by LIS, a group that maintains the Luxembourg Income Study Database," at which point it was "analyzed" by a website called "The Upshot," which is owned by The New York Times. [a] If you ignore the narrative that The Upshot or The New York Times added, and simply examine the actual data, you'll see that "the most recent year in the LIS's analysis is 2010." [a] This is VERY important since the meme is attempting to claim that Canada's middle class JUST SURPASSED the United States'. How is that possible to determine if the data only goes up to 2010?

Turns out, the ACTUAL data simply indicates that our countries are quite similar:

"Median per capita income was $18,700 in the United States in 2010 (which translates to about $75,000 for a family of four after taxes), up 20 percent since 1980." [a] Meanwhile, "median income also rose 20 percent in Canada (between 2000 and 2010) to the equivalent of $18,700." [a] Did you catch that? Median per capita income - in both countries - was actually the SAME EXACT estimate.

part 2 soon
>>
>>74066350
Here's where the NY Times' changed that narrative, however, by literally adding their own speculation: "Median income in Canada pulled into a tie with median United States income in 2010 AND HAS MOST LIKELY SURPASSED IT SINCE THEN." [a] Those words - "most likely surpassed it since then," are not part of the original data, and at best, are nothing more than a journalist's guess. So it's true that Canada caught up to the U.S. in 2010, when using the particular measure of income that the LIS used, but no where did the numbers ACTUALLY show that Canada's middle class had earned MORE than the U.S.

Matter of fact, a Gallup survey conducted between 2006 and 2012 shows the United States with a per capita median income of $15,480 and Canada with $15,181 (adjusted using the World Bank's individual consumption Purchasing Power Parity conversion factor). [b] Another measurement - GDP per capita - shows that the United States and Canada have followed a nearly identical trend over the last decade. [c] Lastly, per the OECD, the U.S. bests Canada in equivalised median DISPOSABLE household income. [s] These figures add credibility to our argument that the United States and Canada are relatively similar, as opposed to alarmingly divergent, and if anything, the U.S. is still slightly ahead.

• CANADA'S HIGHER MINIMUM WAGE CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR SUPERIOR INCOME?

part 3 soon
>>
>>74061095
>>74064035
see
>>74066098
>>
>>74066389
The meme claims Canada's minimum wage is $10.45 an hour and implies that this superior minimum wage led to great prosperity. First, understand that Canada doesn't technically have a federal minimum wage, [d] but instead has different minimums in each of its provinces. It's true, however, that if you average the various territorial minimum wages together, it comes out to about $10.45 (caveat: some provinces change their wage floor every year). The more important thing to be aware of, however, is that this is CANADIAN currency, NOT U.S. currency. In other words, it still needs to be converted, just as Japanese Yen or Chinese Yuan need to be converted into USD, for us to understand what it's worth. Turns out, when converting the value of the Canadian dollar to USD, their average minimum wage is actually equal to about $7.94 USD. [e]

So how does that compare to the U.S.? Well, many already know that our federal minimum wage is $7.25, but that's not the EFFECTIVE minimum wage since "29 states and D.C. have minimum wages above the federal minimum wage." [f] In fact, when you adjust for those state's (and D.C.), the United States' average minimum wage is actually $7.95 USD [f], nearly IDENTICAL to Canada's. So the question must be asked; if our effective minimum wages were largely similar, can it really be argued that Canada's "superior" wage floor "caused" a spike in prosperity over that of the U.S. but that the United States' "inferior" wage floor "caused" us to fall behind? That's rather unlikely given their relative similarity.

part 4 soon
>>
>>74066418
• CANADA'S HIGHER UNIONIZATION RATE CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR INCREASED PROSPERITY?

To answer this question, we need only to examine trends from the past several decades. Since 1980, Canada's (inflation adjusted) incomes have either hovered around the same level or increased [g], yet during the same period, Canada's unionization rates have DECLINED. In fact, from 1981 to 2012, Canada’s unionization rate specifically declined from 38% to 30%. [h] This should call into question the narrative that high unionization rates contributed to an increase in per capita income, since in reality, prosperity increases mostly occurred only AFTER the unionization rates had DECLINED.

• CANADA'S HIGHER TAXES FOR "THE RICH" CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR INCREASED PROSPERITY?

This, too, seems unlikely to be the case. The United States' top marginal tax rate (on regular income) is 39.6%. [i] In Canada, it's 29%. [k]

part 5 next
>>
>>74066443
Furthermore, the top capital gains tax rate in the United States is 25% [i]. "In addition, taxpayers have to pay state and local income taxes on their capital gains income from zero percent in states that do not levy an individual income tax to as high as 13.3 percent in California." [j] Meanwhile, Canada's capital gains tax structure is actually quite different. Only HALF of ANY capital gain is actually taxed [l], and that half is taxed "as income," meaning it follows the combined provincial and federal tax rates. [m] Since the actual rate ONLY applies to half of the capital gain, the EFFECTIVE tax burden is less than that found in the United States, where 100% of the capital gain is susceptible to taxation.

Lastly, "The United States has the third highest general top marginal corporate income tax rate in the world, at 39.1 percent, exceeded only by Chad and the United Arab Emirates." [n] If the claim is that Canada's higher taxation of the rich contributed to their middle class "surpassing the United States," then how does one explain the fact that the rich have a greater tax burden in the United States?

part 6 in a bit
>>
>>74066488
• CANADA'S "FREE" HEALTH CARE SYSTEM CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR INCREASED PROSPERITY.

First, note that health care in Canada is not free, it's merely paid by taxpayers. More important than that, however, is that the system has not come without significant detriment.

"In November 2014, the Fraser Institute released its 24th annual measurement of waiting times for medically necessary treatments in Canada. This most recent measurement shows that the national median waiting time from specialist appointment to treatment increased from 9.6 weeks in 2013 to 9.8 weeks in 2014." [o] In total, Canadians waited for an estimated 12.3 million weeks in 2014, much larger than the 11.8 million weeks estimated for 2013. [o]

In other words, it's getting WORSE, not better.

The study also calculated an estimated value of time lost while waiting for treatment. "Valuing only hours lost during the average work week, the estimated cost of waiting for care in Canada for patients who were in the queue in 2014 was $1.2 billion. This works out to an average of about $1,289 for each of the estimated 937,345 Canadians waiting for treatment in 2014." [o] Add to this the tax expense of funding said health care and you'll get the TRUE cost of Canadian health care.

For a comparison to the U.S., a separate report shows that, for the most part, we lead the pack in regards to preferential wait times, except for elective/non-emergency circumstances. [t] Of course, the United States' health care system is not without significant flaws, but Canada's system is FAR from making its citizens wealthier, as the meme implied.

part 7

>sorry but I must destroy OPs anus.
>>
>>74066534
• CANADA'S "STRONG" BANK REGULATIONS PREVENTED A HOUSING COLLAPSE?

The problem with this premise is that the U.S. housing market did not collapse due to "weak" banking laws. It collapsed due to weak underwriting & loan criteria forced upon banks via legislation, regulation, and the executive branch, specifically through the Community Reinvestment Act, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, and the Fair Housing Act. Per a National Borough of Economic Research Study entitled, "Did the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Lead to Risky Lending?," the conclusion was simple: "Yes, it did." [p] [q] Per the study,

"We find that adherence to the act led to riskier lending by banks: in the six quarters surrounding the CRA exams lending is elevated on average by about 5 percent every quarter and loans in these quarters default by about 15 percent more often. These patterns are accentuated in CRA-eligible census tracts and are concentrated among large banks." [p] [q]

"The strongest link between CRA lending and defaults took place in the runup to the crisis — 2004 to 2006 — when banks rapidly sold CRA mortgages for securitization by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and Wall Street." [p] [q]

CRA-friendly mortgages were described as ones requiring "less than 3% down" and ones which had "flexible underwriting." [r] Unfortunately, to satisfy CRA examiners, these "flexible" loans "rose an average 5%," and those loans then "defaulted about 15% more often." [p] [q]

"There is a clear pattern of increased defaults for loans made by these banks in quarters around the (CRA) exam. Moreover, the effects are larger for loans made within CRA tracts, or predominantly low-income and minority areas." [p] [q]

part 8 then wrap up
>>
>>74066587
As you can see, the root cause of the U.S. housing collapse was an over abundance of risky loans given to people who ordinarily wouldn't have qualified. This led to abnormally elevated foreclosure rates. Most importantly, these practices were almost never the desire of private banks, but instead were procedures the government compelled them to comply with. This is absolutely vital information to understand, as it illustrates why Canada's market did not have the same struggles. Why? Because "Canadian banks were NOT compelled by laws such as our Community Reinvestment Act to lend to less creditworthy borrowers. Nor does Canada have agencies like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac promoting "affordable housing" through guarantees or purchases of high-risk and securitized loans." [r] The truth is, our government was forcing banks to let people buy houses with "only a 3% down payment," but Canadians weren't receiving loans unless they had 20% down or had purchased mortgage insurance as to compensate the lending institution in the case of a default. [r] These - more sound underwriting guidelines - are what prevented dangerously high levels of foreclosures from manifesting in Canada. Bottom line: in Canada, it was the absence of our imprudent housing regulations which allowed them to avoid a housing bubble + subsequent collapse. It was NOT because they had more regulations for banks.

CONCLUSION:
The attached graphic consisted of 6 claims, all of which were questionable, misleading, or false.

Dumbshit straya, Americans have an unshakable faith in capitalism on par with a jihaist's love of allah and virgins. Short of watching their kids starve to death in front of them while the monopoly guy gives them a golden shower, that's not changing.

Not sure it'd change even then, average American might just justify it as just trickle down economics coming to give their kids an education in economics and rant about how it'll make them stronger after the resurrection.

Go to the states some time. They without a single doubt have a hell of a lot more purchasing power for capital to goods.

Ima run down the list here for the fags that are not from Canada.
Min Wage - Varies from Province to Province, it is not federally fixed.
Unionization Rate - Depends on the union.
Taxes on the Rich - Well that depends on how rich you are. In Canada, the more you make, the more you pay taxes. But the riches arn't paying taxes because they are not retarded and still use off-shore accounting (like USA, many Euro-fucks, Aus, and on and on)
Bank Regulations - STRONG... ass fucking for most Canadian consumers and average joes. I wouldn't be surprized if it was illegal to mass store cash in your safe because you didn't want to pay them so fucking much.

BUT LETS NOT FORGET THE MOST IMPORTANT AND NOT MENTIONED FACTOR.

Our assholes have been bleeding for two decades and counting, because of Phone/Internet companies. we have worse service than Korea and pay more than almost anyone else. We fucking cucked hard by the Internet jew.

Oh also.. The Healthcare Free bullshit.. We just don't jew you at the door. You're still going to pay for the cast somehow, and you're still going to pay for surgury at some point, as well as medication you may/may not need.

But they want less taxes somehow? Taxing the rich means the gap between rich and poor increases.
