1. Tasers are an intermediate weapon for compliance purposes. Once they are charging at you and attacking it's too late for tasers.
2. You cannot "just shoot them in the leg". Any rounds that miss that narrow target are liabilities that might hurt innocent people. You don't aim for the head for he same reason. If you did manage to hit the leg there's a great chance of hitting the femoral artery and killing them anyways. Aim high-center chest or even center of mass. Shoot them until they stop trying to harm you.
3. If someone is trying to kill you, there is no amount of training on the Earth that can make you temper your response. Once that threshold has been crossed there's no going back. If police in your country are unwilling to use deadly force against individuals who are trying to murder them they are not protecting the general populace, they are simply sacrificing their lives in the name of moral vanity. Dead cops can't protect people.
