Gingrich is literally the only person on that list who meets Trump's requirements. I figured it would be him ever since his name began floating around.

As long as it's a white man (aside from Kasich) I don't mind. Picking a token minority would be retarded. He could do a lot worse than Newt.

I'm not even foolish enough to think of anti-establishment at this point. He's going to go back to the days of bipartisanship. He's probably disgusted with what his party has become and how both parties behave inside and outside of Congress.

He won't flat out say it; he still deeply cares about the party. But deeply you know he wants another shot to make things right again.

Jack Kemp and Reagan didn't get along; Gingrich worked with both of them to institute Reagan's tax plan (which was essentially Kemp's). As much as he and Clinton hated each other, you have to admit they got things done no matter how much of a shit show it was. According to AFL-CIO the U.S. lost 700,000 manufacturing jobs to Mexico because of NAFTA. On the other hand, NAFTA currently supports 140,000 small/medium-sized businesses according to the US Trade Representative.

The US Chamber of Commerce found that NAFTA increased US goods and services with Canada and Mexico from $337 billion in '93 to $1.2 trillion in 2011. We have a trade surplus of $28.3 billion with NAFTA countries. According to the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, NAFTA increased U.S. agricultural exports to Mexico and Canada. >By May 1997, Republican congressional leaders reached a compromise with Democrats and President Clinton on the federal budget. The agreement called for a federal spending plan designed to reduce the federal deficit and achieve a balanced budget by 2002. The plan included a total of $152 billion in bipartisan tax cuts over five years.[51] Other major parts of the spending plan called for $115 billion to be saved through a restructuring of Medicare, $24 billion set aside to extend health insurance to children of the working poor, tax credits for college tuition, and a $2 billion welfare-to-work jobs initiative.[52][53]

>President Clinton signed the budget legislation in August 1997. At the signing, Gingrich gave credit to ordinary Americans stating, "It was their political will that brought the two parties together."

Reminder to you Millennials: when you don't have constant in-fighting between the two parties, their policies aren't that wildly different. The bullshit that has gone down over the past 15 years gave rise to people like Bernie and Obama becoming viable candidates.

Dennis Hastert is a child rapist. We won't tolerate lies from pro-pedophile scum.

>Hastert, 74, an Illinois Republican who worked as a high school history teacher and wrestling coach before he got into politics, pleaded guilty last year to withdrawing money in amounts meant to dodge federal reporting requirements — itself a crime that prosecutors have said belied something more sinister. By federal authorities’ account, the money was used to pay off a man Hastert sexually molested decades ago while working as a coach, and that man was one of five people who alleged Hastert abused or touched them in inappropriate, questionable ways as teenagers.

Republican insider Dennis Hastert served in Congress from 1987 to 2007. Before being elected to Congress, Hastert was a high school teacher and wrestling coach. He used his position of authority over young boys to molest them, and was later convicted to money laundering offenses related to his crime.

Hastert had too many victims to track, as most remained silent due to Hastert’s GOP power and influence.

He used the money to bribe boys he sexually assaulted.

The only reason he won't stand trial for child rape is because of the statue of limitations.

Dennis Hastert is a child rapist.

Trump is against NAFTA. Newt Gringrich was the man who made NAFTA possible. The ticket makes no sense for Trump.

Newt Gingrich was also close to Dennis Hastert, who raped children.

Those are the facts.

How are they close? You've only shown pictures of them in professional settings. For fuck's sake, they worked together to impeach Clinton, he was Gingrich's chief deputy WHIP, they worked to take down Hillary's health care plan in 1993, etc.

In addition, Newt Gingrich was one of the leaders of NAFTA. Trump hates NAFTA and is campaigning against it. It makes no sense to put them together.

No one cares about Megyn Kelly.

People care about NAFTA in the most important states. Newt Gingrich was pro-NAFTA.

New victims of Dennis Hastert are going public almost daily. The Democrats would attack Newt Gingrich for his close relationship with Hastert.

Dennis Hastert was molesting Congressional pages, the same ones who worked in Congress with Gingrich. What did Gingrich know, and when did he know it?

Trump has been consistently against open borders, and "free trade."

It makes no sense to pick a VP who supported open borders, and "free trade."

There are many other people to pick. Do not pick Gingrich, especially with his terrible past. What if a Congressional page comes out and alleges that Gingrich didn't do anything, despite knowing Dennis Hastert was molesting him? Many people believe this to be possible.

It makes sense to me because he has the most experience to do the job more so than any other VP candidate. His past policies don't really effect his job as VP. It doesn't matter if he was for open borders or NAFTA. The only thing Trump has to worry about in those regards would be it coming up in a debate or something, and Hillary probably won't even debate with Trump out of fear alone. Trump would absolutely destroy her.

People change their positions. I am not going to overlook all the great things Gingrich wants just because of 2-3 things that he did that I don't agree with. If the only reason not to pick him is fear of losing votes, its a dumb reason.

Hillary is done for, no matter who he picks as VP.

From an Iowan's perspective I hope it's NOT Ernst. It's not that a lot of people hate her here, it's just that she hasn't accomplished much, it's her first term, and it would seem like a desperate VP move to get a swing state. HUNTSMAN FOR VP!

-solid policy man
-successful governor
-feared by Obama administration
-smeared by GOP establishment
-speaks mandarin so he can fuck them in their own language
-has liberal appeal and conservative record
-only 56, can and will continue Trump's vision, Gingrich is 72 and has personal baggage
-daughters
-one of the first to be open to Trump

Problems:

>inb4 mormon

-he believes in climate change, but not over economic concerns
>"We can enact policies here, but I wouldn't want to unilaterally disarm as a country. I wouldn't want to hinder job creators at a time when our economy is flat."

I believe Trump will have to answer for his China tweet, and this honestly is not far from what Trump's position really is. It's pointless to argue "climate change isn't manmade", this won't sell in the election and will just piss off independents

-history of appeasement of illegals

This is a big one, he had do to some of it as a governor at the state level, but no question he is soft on them. But he also is in favor of a 'fence', i.e., the wall. The biggest hurdle, Trump will have to somehow maintain his law and order stance while moderating his position..."deport them all" also is too hardline for independents.

Conclusion: Trump is the Absolute Madman, Huntsman is the stable policy guy and respected politician by both parties. Trump needs cross party appeal. He has Rs in his pocket (NeverTrump won't go for Shillary except for neocon shits) and needs to break up the Ds.

Plus, Trump/Huntsman is the ultimate badass sounding ticket.

Nah. People aren't that invested in politics and VP picks especially.

All they'll see is "he's running with a woman VP", which would neutralize a lot of Hillary's jabs at him and as you say sway a swing state.

This is the tactical choice.

Newt Gingrich is a terrible choice simply because he is too old. A good amount of people won't want to vote for a ticket with two men in their 70's. I'm not saying he has to pick a woman or a minority although a qualified female candidate would be great for bringing in the white female vote. Ideally his running mate will be under 60.

Gingrich is a couple years older than trump but that isn't the point. I think most people are willing to vote for someone in their seventies but a decent portion of the population will dislike the idea of both the president and vice president being 70+. Even if it swung just 1% of the vote it could be devastating. I think Gingrich would be good as an adviser or chief of staff but he brings nothing to a presidential ticket.
