Well first remember that Jizya was only for those that really had the capability of paying it, and the rate would fluctuate based off of income.

It'll be entirely for the wrong reason. When it comes to Islam, people will only fail you, because the environment is toxic for all people equally.
Tear yourself from all outside voices (both Muslims and non-Muslims) and read it for yourself. While you're reading it, ask yourself if any of it makes sense. And in the end, make a decision. Just make sure that when you do, it's on your own terms, with no outside influence.
