When my students complain about how hard math is I usually give them a verbal copy-pasta something along the lines of "College algebra is a pre-requisite to getting almost any college degree, and besides the challenge of doing something hard makes you a better person.".
Math is such a hard subject to explain well. I actually think that most people (especially blacks) would benefit from a later (early 20s) introduction to math beyond basic addition & multiplication because I've seen so many people go from what is basically a 3rd grade level understanding of math to being able to pass a college algebra course in two semesters.
