Bernie Sanders and liberals have pushed Wendy's into deploying automated kiosks to over 6,000 stores by the end of the year.

The company cites the coming rise of minimum wage as the main impetus to invest more heavily into automation. The higher wages make it more appealing to switch to fully automated stores.

http://www.investors.com/politics/policy/wendys-serves-up-kiosks-as-wages-rise-hits-fast-food-group/

This is the problem with Bernie Sanders, and Hillary Clinton, and progressives who push very hard to raise the minimum wage," says Puzder CEO of Carl's Jr/Hardees. "Does it really help if Sally makes $3 more an hour if Suzie has no job?"

Carl's Jr is also experimenting with a fully automated store.

http://www.businessinsider.com/carls-jr-wants-open-automated-location-2016-3

Puzder's interest in an employee-free restaurant, which he says would be possible only if the company found time as Hardee's works on its northeastern expansion, has been driven by rising minimum wages across the US.

"With government driving up the cost of labor, it's driving down the number of jobs," he says. "You're going to see automation not just in airports and grocery stores, but in restaurants."

Just think about the loss prevention from not having workers. Most theft is from employees.

You would save tons of money just not having someone they can threaten to open the register too.

Some nigga walks in with a gun and the machine isn't scared. It will keep the money locked up until cops arrive. So basically no theft from the store will happen.

Automation would've happened over time no matter what. Raising minimum wages would maybe have delayed it, but as the technology gets cheaper, the companies would eventually move to automation. And after all it's a good thing that humans don't have to do work that can be automated, you'd be a retard to think otherwise.

>>
>>73914417
The point is that the increased minimum wage is going to force companies to optimize certain links in the supply chain, and the best way to do that is with one worker being assisted by a machine, rather than have two workers.

Higher minimum wage = less unskilled jobs as soon as companies can automate the position.

Problem is, we've got plenty of unskilled labor, which means more nogs on welfare.

It's going to get weird.

Why should people be expected to have a living wage doing a truly shitty job that even a trained monkey could do?

When I worked at McDs (a long time ago) I accepted that it was a minimum wage part time job because I was in college and never expected to work there forever.

They did keep upping my hours to 30+, in spite of my demand to keep it near 20, because I was one of the best people there. I called production after only working there for 2 months. They wanted to make me shift manager, but I didn't want the hours.

Now I have an MS in Chemisty, an MS in Information Science, and make $100K as an application engineer.

It's PART TIME for a reason.

People talk about the 1%. They arent the problem. The bottom 10% are the problem in every way, shape, and form

now all they need is something edible on the menu
>>
>>73916511

the kiosks have turned the cashier around and improved so the customer can use it himself. With the increasing tech savvy of customers this makes sense - they no longer need someone that enters their order.
The kiosks do not replace a human with a machine - they replace one human with another and cut out reduncancy (2 people trying to enter the order).

I mean, my first job was making pizzas at fucking Little Caesar's. It was my only means of income.

If the future of jobs like that is automation, and let's not kid ourselves that this was going to happen inevitably, then what does this mean for the job market in general?

If even older teens out there can't get out into the job market then things are only going to get worse from here on out. Automation will fuck portions of the job sector no matter how you slice it. Which will fuck the economy.

Pol should stop being so reactionary. $7.25 is literally slave labor but fuck no I'm not paying a burger compiler 15 bucks an hour to get my order wrong. I say around 11 dollars would be sufficient since most of those workers are already on government handouts.
>>
>>73923919
Then people will just lose their jobs. Most restaurants average single-digit profit margins. Of course these idiots who can't get promoted out of fast food cashier jobs have no idea what that means, or the inevitable ramifications of demanding a 100% pay bump.

Time to start eating burgers for the automated future.

A liberal tear in every bite.
>>
>>73916827

>Read Ayn Rand, the Democrats will just make automated kiosks illegal.

So companies will implement on-line ordering through a smartphone.

Or they will reduce the size of the restaurant to that of a vending machine.

Democrats don't rule the world and Americans have never been comfortable with other countries being more technologically advanced.

The trouble for them also is that these things are already in widespread use which means that if the government bans them, under the Democrat negotiated TPP the government will need to compensate those companies for the increased cost of employing staff - as well as the companies that designed and manufactured the machines for lost revenue.
>>
>>73924311

There's actually a lack of fast food workers here despite the wage rise. Vibrant economy is pushing people to greener pastures.

That said, this is partially because we weren't retarded with the wage rise (it comes in staged phases, speed depends on business size, and you are allowed to charge a surcharge for extra wage cost if you need to).
>>
They've already been doing this for years at gas stations like Wawa and Royal Farms. I'm surprised it took them long enough.
>>
>>73913500

>>

I'll be glad when fast food is fully robotized. First off, no 16 year olds giving me attitude like they're somehow important or 'forgetting' to wash their hands frequently enough, secondly, having been on the other side of the counter, people might actually figure out why a LARGE combo costs more than it says on the menu (for a regular combo). Seriously, I had at least one customer that retarded per night.
>>

nigga you are aware employee pay is like, 1% of your food prep cost at these sorts of places, right

this is literally just fast food places throwing a shitfit that their profits will take the tiniest hit
>>
>>73921455
This is just taking orders. Something that is already done at a couple places around the nation already.

Even if the company stops at cashers, you're looking at a staff cut of at least 2-4 people per store. That is a huge cost savings not just in salary but also the bull shit humans bring with them.
>>
>>73920904
a friend of mine does this. He's a pain in the ass and probably gets extra fomunda with his order. Fast food employees get mad if they have to break routine and think for a second or two.
>>

I have three machines like this in my local Mcdonald's. Massive vertical touch screens that are cleaned on the hour, and they're double sided so six people could order simultaneously. The GUI is actually really nice. Scrolling menus and everything that make me feel like I'm in minority report.

Every damn time I walk into one to buy my fat mother a burger so she can stop fucking calling me, I'm literally the only person using them. People prefer people, it seems.

Or at least normies prefer normies over the spooky over-sized iPad.

Wendy's is about ready to go bankrupt anyway, we lost ALL Wendy's in our town in early 2015 and nobody has protested/asked for them to return or seemingly cared much.

They just had a bad run on their stock and its under 10 bucks which is even worse than El Pollo Loco.

Just a desperate attempt to stay afloat, people will avoid it worse IMHO because the machines will break when people abuse them especially in suburban areas and losing the human touch negates the entire purpose of eating in, just eat at drive throughs.
