A lot of soul sister and brother types think the curriculum in public schools should stop teaching the history of colonial America and by proxy all American history and instead teach about anything else. Slaves, Native Americans, throw in a bit of global history from other countries.
Best you can do is ignore them which most school boards do anyway and speak out against them when one of these types weasel their way into a seat of power.
