Students prepare signs and speeches Wednesday at the Rainier Beach branch of the Seattle Public Library for their second Global Islamophobia Awareness Day from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Victor Steinbrueck Park near Pike Place Market. “Last year our topics were really broad,” said Ahlaam Ibraahim, 18, a senior at Rainier Beach High School, one of the organizers of the event. “This year, we’ll have more intense topics and more intense workshops.” They’ll offer free food and henna decorating, and have information about Islamic stances on women’s rights, terrorism, Muslims’ contribution to society, and the history of Islamophobia. Organizers formed a youth committee through social media last year to unite students from all over Seattle and South King County to address Islamophobia in the wake of the February 2015 Chapel Hill shooting, when three Muslim college students were killed in a suspected hate crime
