Not really. The heavily urbanized parts of California are pretty well off for the most part, and that covers a relatively large area.
On top of the tech advantage, as other anons pointed out, California would probably be the winner of choice of any potential foreign allies, the Pacific Ocean is a great supply line, Calfornia is geologically tough to invade, and the state is healthy relative to the rest of the country.
I think that Texas's severe overestimation of how strong and tough they are would be another thing that contributes to their prompt downfall. They'd think that they were going to steamroll California, who would crumple up the minute that armed forces showed up on their doorstep like the liberal pussies that they are. This would set the stage for some rough wake up calls that would probably come too late.
