Brazilian economy was good in her (and her predecessor Lula) government because of external factors, and they did no planning for when things would eventually go bad. Then the economy went to shit and she did everything in her power to either hide it or blame it on a nonexistent international economic crisis just in time for the last elections, which just made things worse but made it appear to dumb people that everything was OK. Then as soon as she was elected she admitted everything was shit. She also couldn't keep her own promises. Her popularity went to shit and now we are in this situation.

Lula is praised by Western media because of his welfare programs where he gives welfare(like 20 dollars a month) to starving people. He is almost a SJW wet dream(symbolically only of course).
He also changed the definition of middle-class and defined it as anybody who earns more than 70 dollars a month a middle class person. So statistically, this made it looks like 70% of Brazil is middle class.
Dilma was supposed to simply continue his work, but what allowed Lula to lavishly spend money on welfare programs was China's hunger for Brazilian iron ore and soybeans, commodities price was high, so Brazil was winning big, now commodities price came crashing down and the Brazilian economy along with it, Dilma just happens to be the unlucky one in the leadership position.
