I still have no real interest in Spanish, though. Latinas are hot, but if you learn Spanish and enter an international organization they're gonna want to send you to Latin America. I have no interest in Central America because a good portion of it is gangland, which makes those areas even more dangerous than many jihadist areas of the Middle East. There are two cool countries in South America, and one of them speaks Portuguese. The other one is Chile. So the only reason I'd learn Spanish would be to work in Chile, which seems silly.

I traveled a bit in Mexico and was surprised by the lack of english at touristy places like Tulum and San Cristóbal de las Casas, even at travel agencies, hotels, bus station etc. they didn't speak english.

I'm from California and only first gen illegal immigrants don't speak English fluently. Though most know basic words. My high school was 60% Hispanic and all the kids spoke English fluently. Also almost all white kids knew basic conversational Spanish from growing up with such a heavy Hispanic population.

I really have no reason to learn it. I do live in a mexican filled area of texas but most of them speak my language. Also the mexicans that speak only spanish seclude themselves from white people. They shop at their own mexican stores, they live in their little mexican areas, they pretty much have an entire community of spanish speaking people. They have turned half of my home town into little mexico. I'm used to it and I know enough spanish to buy some tacos or get some fajitas from the mexican meat market. Why would I want to learn the whole language? I fix computers for hotels at a helpdesk and don't need it at all. Even the housekeepers speak enough English to get me connected to fix their issues.
