I think that the STEM are a meme but they are funny.

The true based majors are those with lessons on how to manage people who did a STEM major.

Economic, law and management are god tier.

History is a very broad subject. It really depends on what we are speaking about.

history. hahahahaha. What are you going to do with that curate 1 of the ~10 museums in your city?

Science: Good luck getting a job unless you're in the top 10% of your field. I'm about to wrap up a Biology degree so I'm double-fucked, because not only will I have a large pool of people to compete against, most of them are women so I'm going up against the diversity hiring policies as well.
Technology: If it's not computer programming then you wasted a degree.
Engineer: This is actually useful. Providing you're good at it.
Math: enjoy being a teacher, because it's the only place you're going with Math.
>>
>>73778059
Why is this a thing now
>>
>>73778881
it's just one americunt. ignore him.
>>
>>73778008
No they're not STEM-worthy. They don't create, innovate and don't strictly work with facts alone.
>economics = credible estimates
>law = changes to whichever dictator gets elected/conquers the country

Medicine is STEM worthy.

First year of doing my Immunology Degree. One of the first things my lecturers have told me about is the huge increase of PhD candidates compared to the almost stagnant positions available for academics, and the resulting expectation creep and pressure that comes from it

Not sure if I should give up on it, or try and make it in to that top 10% range (they suggested volunteering as much as you can in labs to set yourself apart from the rest of the students)

Any advice?
>>
>>73778399
>Technology: If it's not computer programming then you wasted a degree.

Excuse me? a programmer dont know shit about managing servers, security appliance, network appliance and general support, so no, programming is not the only useful thing in technology.

Every one I know who did science has done nothing with their degree or is trying to convince themselves that teaching niggers/Muslims/abos in sydney's inner west is a worthy endevour.
>>
>>73779550
Just fucking end my life. I'm going to be stuck with a useless fucking meme degree and end up waiting tables.
>>
>>73779492
Can't you just get an apprenticeship to learn all that though?
>>
>>73779296
Not really. You're doing immunology whereas my fields primarily revolve around species Ecology and Behaviour. Your field is more specialised than mine, and so I can't really help you. You may wish to start looking into positions related to biology, however, like government organisations which control things related to Biology.
Personally I'm looking at jobs with things like the regional council, and the MPI (Ministry of Primary Industries) which controls and manages things like the fisheries and farms of the country. It's not exactly what I studied, but Ecology is a fucking stagnant field if you're not a researcher. And even then, all ecology papers I've ever read boil down to "Shit's fucked, industry is evil, we'll never recover, and every living thing will probably be dead in 200 years because we're all a bunch of pessimists that whine about problems instead of thinking of fucking solutions".
>>

>What does /pol/ think?

I think you're all fucking stupid for dismissing humanities and liberal arts like that. /pol/ only does that sometimes because you say it's full of leftists.

but it's actually a personality thing. if you're an fedora wearing autist who's only good at calculating, then stay in STEM.

if you're a decent writer, care deeply about art and if you love philosophy and abstract concepts, go get that arts degree.
>>
>>73779825
What the hell even composes an arts degree? You learn to draw? Learn the works of famous artists? Is philosophy part of the arts?
>>
>>73779673
in my country we have an institute that teach you all of that and more, is like a computer science but more specific per area. is like a courses but in the college level.
>>
>>73779982
>What the hell even composes an arts degree?

see, a lot of you don't even know that. thanks for proving my point.

>Is philosophy part of the arts?

sometimes. not all philosophy stuff relates to art though but a big chunk does.

it also depends on the faculty guidelines and what the degree is called once you receive it.
>aka is it a bachelor of arts or philosophy?
>>
>>73779982
I do psychology and counter terror criminology under an arts degree
>>

No I was aiming for something far less realistic or lucrative.
I want to go into the foreign service or intelligence analysis. NGOs, private intelligence firms, shit like that.

Finance and applied matg double major.

For any of you under age anons out there, this is what you should be studying.
>>
>>73779296
> even the lectures told you that you won't have a good future perspective

Go away ASAP!

You will waste 10 years for your PhD, have to do volunteer work, and if you are not in the top 10% you are fucked.
>>
>>73779825
I agree with this anon, the right has abandoned philosophy and the field is no better off for that. A lot of times I've clashed with many people on my course because they are ridiculously bourgeoisie, daddy's money, let everyone in and "I am an attack helicopter" types.

That is somewhat true, even with academia. I'm currently studying to become a teacher because Australia has some good pay for math teachers.

>care-free life
My sleep quality is shitty, and sometimes i have to get up in the middle of the night to check out events and stuff. Sometimes i wake up and find out a dozen of grands gone with the wind from my account if i lose overnight positions. I also spend up 10 hours in front of a computer screen per day.

Sometimes i envy normies and wageslaves
>>
>>73780813
No. Your field is a bloody swathe of SJWs trying to use themselves as an appeal to authority on why the poor are disproportionately niggers.

I once fucked an anthropologist who claimed she merely "allowed" my penis to give her two orgasms. I was apparently cucking some law student 3000 miles away while she attended Brown. She later wrote one of the shittiest academic papers I've ever read and as far as I know has never had a paying job outside of academia.
>>
Lol how about forestry?

>a programmer dont know shit about managing servers, security appliance, network appliance and general support
I'm working in a moderate sized non-IT company. Not the biggest player in the field, but not a startup either. We have 4 programmers working on our in-house applications and rarely hiring additional ones for bigger projects. We have one network guy and he also works for other companies; we call him when he's needed. That's 4+ employees vs 0,5. We also have to be able to do basic server/network maintenance ourselves because our network guy may not always be available.

Yeah because we won't need math in 10 years... Nice try art faggot. I am a STEM graduate in computer networking. I don't see the Internet not being a thing in 10 years either. You're so retarded posting your shit opinion on the Internet using a device that exists because of STEM. Maybe you should go back to writing in your diary? Even your diary required math to create. Unless it's some uneven piece of shit made out of leaves you picked off a tree, and bound with bark you scraped off said tree. Long story short you're a giant know it all faggot.

I have a bs in CS and its a waste of time for me personally. I am starting my own business fxing pcs, and repairing iPhone, active directory and stuff like that waiting on the paper work from the state. I know vb6 and c#,Ms sql but who cares. If I fail again I plan on an heroing because I don't really think I owe the loan company or soceity anymore of my time and money for something that I obviously can't break into.People seem to want me to fail and my hard earned tax dollars shouldn't gonto those people. I am referring to my last few jobs BTW. Everyone seems to work in government sector and they are paid good money for contracts for everything from making maps for army, to missles parts. I would rather cause them to lose money at this point even if it cost me death.. They simply don't deserve me or more time. I can't to fail really...

Ben fatto vecchio mio, in bocca al lupo.
As for history, it's often a worthless degree (at least in Italy it is) but it's fundamental to every human being who is politically engaged and interested in learning and understanding how the world works.
History is the key of everything: without knowing it, you can't really understand ideologies and the current world.
This doesn't mean you should know all the Kings of Bulgaria in IX century AD but it means to read a fucking lot and be interested in the field.
I'm biased because I love history (although I didn't pursue it academically), but I truly think that only people with a strong knowledge of it can actually be politically aware.
