BC absolutely is short of land. Most of the massive amount of square kilometres in there are mountainous forest that's absolutely worthless for human settlement. Even most of the usable land is out of way, where no one wants to go.

It has a younger population but it is located in a small area with lots of fucking mountains surrounding it.
For example North Vancouver is basically all on a mountain, which sucks because it rains like every day there.
Space is important there wedged between mountains and a rivers and then placed on the coast. It is very congested compared to Calgary or Edmonton or Ottawa or Winnipeg.
This makes it ideal for these giant towers. Even in good areas the city is moving towards high rises and underground everything, the average supermarket there might have a massive underground parking area because there isn't any fucking room for lots, theres barely enough room for streets for fuck sake.
Newer areas have been moving towards this but south Van like Surrey is not yet there, it's the same with Port Moody.
I know architects there and they are all working with the city to put up high rises, its a young city that was planned horribly, which is tradition in Canada.
Toronto's highways are a fucking embarrassment for example, they literally look like they were planned by a blind monkey.
In Winnipeg we just put up a new stadium for tens of thousands of viewers but no one thought of where the fuck anyone would park and it is a clusterfuck every summer.
