Australia gets it. Basically games like basketball have insane heigth requirements that make the sport unplayable for 95% of the population. This is why esports are so popular, they completely eliminate most of these genetical barriers and only account for player skill. Soccer is one of the few sports which allows more types of people to play hence why its the most popular.

It was actually popular in the US into the 1920s. However, administrative failures and squabbling between various competing authorities meant it never took off the way it did in Europe and South America. So they eventually settled for nonsense like American Football instead. It's slowly gaining popularity, though I suspect it's driven in part by mass immigration.
