It depends on the country they are in and the type of neighbourhood they are patrolling.
I think this is also important in selecting what kind of temperaments of cops are suitable for each neighborhood.
For example in a high crime area, aka areas in Mexico full of fucking druglords and cartel members, then you need the literal fucking swat team ready for the apocalypse at any time.
In a nice little suburban area I think your standard pistols and tazers are enough. Most importantly I think police forces must assess the personalities and characters of their cops and assign then areas suitable for their attitudes.
