Honesty. I can actually believe things that Trump says. Hillary will say anything to get elected.
No-nonsense attitude. You'll often see people pointing out an "obvious problem" with something he says ("you cant force Mexico to pay...") and they immediately get BTFO ("we just cut the aid money to Mexico"). Its obvious most opponents have sat in their ivory tower for too long and cant think outside of the lines given to them.
Pro-American. 'nuff said. I shouldn't even have to bring this up.
He is a populist candidate during a time of economic and social instability, where a very large number of individuals are losing economic franchise, effectively becoming obsolete as the information economy continues to develop and globalize. He has focused on a few key true statements that are politically unfashionable, giving him an air of being the classic populist hero, fighting against the establishment. Add water and heat at 325 for three months resting in a bed of establishment candidates, garnish with constant media attention, serve with side of overall change in global political sentiment. Whether you personally like him or not, he's playing his cards damn well, it must be said.
John stewart just gave a reason why, blaming the left. His words are the gold-standard for the left so they can't argue. Google it.

The GOP has some blame.
In 2010 and 2014, the GOP made historic gains in the legislature, as with the public intention of doing conservative things.
Instead what they do is jack shit, and they let Obama do stuff their constituents opposed.
Trump comes in and basically recognized a desire that was not being fulfilled. All these former governors, congressman, and senators saw their experience become liabilities instead of assets because they were seen as accomplices to this whole deal.
