Also, in the early Christian period the term Hellenes was applied to non-Christians.
>>73711260
That's exactly what I'm saying though, Greeks didn't avoid the cuckening by Rome, even though they certainly kept their culture more than, say, the Gauls. When you call yourself "Roman", you can tell you have been cucked.
Rome was of course influenced by Greeks a lot, but differently. There was no direct cucking, Greeks were just fancy and educated slaves with some interesting things to say. Some Romans despised them, others liked them and eventually incorporated some stuff even further, especially further into the imperial era, but they never lost their Roman identity to them.

Of course, but the schism happened after Constantine decided that Christianity was going to be the religion of the Empire though.
There was a post with armenians and their fights with the turk around 1918 wherein the BTFO turks. Anyone have this?
The people in this thread trying to apply modern identity politics to 1500-2000 year old history are being fucking retarded. Romans certainly conquered the Hellenistic world, but they did so a long time ago and had a very long period of a peaceful, integrated society around the Mediterranean. The identity of 'greek' and 'roman' fused together into a single civilization, where their civic structure was indistinguishable from their Christian religion, the civilization of classical antiquity.
We have forgotten this civilization and replaced it with an obscured drama of the loosely fitted modern states and identities. We forgot this civilization because in the 600-800s, over 50% of its civilization was brutally conquered by the Islamic invasions, and it suffered a slow agonizing death over several centuries.
>>73713200
thanks leaf
but you just have to explain and get in-depth with these plebes
>>73712846
No, that schism happened centuries later, when the Eastern Empire completely lost control of the Mediterranean, and civilization in the Occident was scrambling to create social infrastructure and reopen trade in Western Europe. The schism ultimately happened because the Eastern Emperor could no long fulfill his role in securing civilization.
>>73713200
>The identity of 'greek' and 'roman' fused together into a single civilization, where their civic structure was indistinguishable from their Christian religion, the civilization of classical antiquity.

>>73713667
Okay, I scrolled up a bit and you seem to be arguing that there was some kind of latent hatred for the newly imposed roman christian religion, and admiration for their lost Greek pagan traditions.
This is particularly stupid because it was the Greeks which were largely influential in eliminating Paganism in Roman society. The conquest of Greece for the Romans was invaluable, because Greeks soon formed the intellectual base of their culture. The Romans were hardly uncivilized: they had amazing organizational and civic ideas, but the Greeks were the best in the world in science, philosophy, etc.
Before the Greeks, the Romans were incredibly traditionalist. They were not so much as pious towards their pagan gods as they were comfortable. It was the Greek sense of philosophical detachment that allowed the Romans to move past the old gods. Furthermore, they moved past the old gods in an ideological system that was incubated in the Hellenistic world. It is just as easy to make an argument that it was the Greeks which 'cucked' the Romans into their prosperous civilization.
And if you're ever going to argue about paganism, you have to know that all forms of paganism, especially the further back you look in history, are essentially the exact same religion with localized names. Religious war, in the sense of two civilizations fighting over the structure of society or theological belief, did not exist. Was there any hostility at all between Romans and Greeks? Of course, but it happened before the time of Christ, a long time before the advent of Christianity as the Imperial religion, and a long, long time before the fall of the civilization. And those arguments were over provincial concerns of sovereignty, not bitter, long standing religious or ethnic issues.
