(remove the spaces between the S M H, because gookmoot wont take down the baka filter)

>Q&A star Duncan Storrar puts a human face on the budget battle

>Duncan Storrar's appearance on Monday night's Q&A threw the post-budget back-and-forth into sharp relief. On national television, the 45-year-old father-of-two put a human face on a debate that had been little more than nebulous sound bites about "growth" and "fairness".

>What rich people call a milkshake and a sandwich – people at my end of the scale call that a meal for my family

>"People just have no idea what it's like for people like me," he told Fairfax Media after the program.

>Mr Storrar is a part-time truck driver with two daughters and a mental health issue. He earlier told Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer he had spent his whole working life on the minimum wage, distilling a common critique of the budget to personal experience.

>"You're gonna lift the tax-free threshold for rich people," he said. "Why don't I get it? Why do they get it?"

>He was referring to the government's move to lift the upper end of the 32.5 cent tax bracket from $80,000 to $87,000 - saving $315 a year for people earning more than $80,000.

What you alt-right faggots are ignoring, is that he was not really the issue. Just another "battler" meme man.

The issue was the was our elite, our conservative elite, are pushing a one size fits all trickle down neo-liberal playbook to very complex issues.

If I was advising the LNP, firstly I would be telling them to NOT try and win this election, it is a poison chalice. Recession is unavoidable.

Secondly - DO NOT try and defend trickle down tax breaks, EVER. Do not twist and turn and mealy mouth excuses for a zombie idea.
All she had to do was acknowledge his pain and say they are working towards fixing it.
getting all Milton Friedman and defending the very notions that have train wrecked the U.S. is not going to win anything. It was a bad move.
>>
>>73672226
>What does /pol/ think of this obvious upstanding citizen and his predicament?
Income tax is criminal and perpetuates this whole inane discussion between "us and them". Dialog is "why does so-and-so get this, and I don't", because everyone is competing to get money they already worked for BACK from the damn Government.

It applies to all levels. States compete at the fed level to try and get whatever "money" back to their constituents through whatever dumb pork barrel project they can get stuck in some completely unrelated bill that gets passed for no particular reason.

In one move the Federal Government got us all competing with eachother rather than competing with the Federal Gov. Everyone, at all levels, sucks that Federal tit.

And it isn't like all problems would be solved if Federal income tax were abolished, but damned if it wouldn't be one huge first step in right direction.

a tax break for the bottom makes poor people's lives measurably better, a tax break at the top just makes rich people's lives a tiny fraction richer.

what part of "Not Just Income Taxes" did you fail to grasp you faggots?

a couple years ago i totted up my yearly tax burden and it was goddamned 40% when income, sales, VAT, excise, stamp etc etc etc taxes were tallied.

i got to keep only 60% of my income, which then had to pay all of my expenses leaving me precious little as "profit" while the corproate tax structure is designed to tax them only AFTER their expenses are met.

why the double standard?

since companies dont actually pay taxes, as they are just another expesnse, they can make US pay their taxes, which means i get taxed even more, but this time i cant even see it to total it up.

you can EITHER tax businesses, OR tax people, to do both is taxing the people twice.

fuck, if they taxed me AFTER my expenses (food housing clothing, transport etc) that wouldnt be so bad, but i dont even get that weak, ineffectual reacharound, i just get railed in my ass over and over and over, plus with the new Obamacare Mandate i am forced to pay even more.

fuck yourself with a fire hydrant.

I agree but recession is avoidable. The answer is ALWAYS trickle-up rather than trickle-down. Cut the taxes that affect the poor and you will see the best effect.

Demand-side policy that works is simply expand the deficit until unemployment reaches the target rate, say, 2%. It's not rocket science. We understood it from WW2 until 1975 when the (Labor) government chose to stop for misguided reasons.

Labour force underutilisation (unemployment + underemployment + long-term unemployed not counted for inactivity) is around 16%. Well gee whiz I wonder why we're gonna have a recession. We need yuge fiscal expansion and neither major party is offering it.

Working men of this thread. It is only natural survival instinct to want to keep most of your income you workes for so you can sustain a family and a positive birth rate. Still, we realize we need a government for running a country (refer to Somalia for a great example of a government-free nation). It is not fair, that after you surpass a certain income limit you are untouchable by the taxman, since that budget deficit will be robbed from you by raising/creating new taxes. What do? Any ideas?

You jest m8, but the government is trialling giving welfare fags (including disabled) a special debit card that can only be used to buy certain items and not others (alcohol gambling, porn).

Imagine how embarrassing it will be to pull that thing out at the checkout.
>>
>>73681574
What exactly is wrong with that? If you're to take money from people and hand it over to others for the purpose of buying food and paying bills, what exactly is wrong with ensuring it is used for this purpose? The current system of handing over cash money and hoping it doesn't go into the pokies or booze doesn't seem to work well.

A culture of shame around such things wouldn't be such a bad thing, America once had such a thing and now it doesn't.
>>
>>73682568
There shouldn't be a culture of shame around being poor. Being poor is punitive enough.

What there should be however, and isn't yet, is a system that looks after people from the bottom up by guaranteeing basic opportunities. Most importantly jobs. We need a way to ensure that anyone willing to give their time and labour can do something useful and earn an income that way.

It wouldn't be used by everyone, ideally not even more than 2% or so, but having it there would be the best welfare program AND back to work transition program in the world. Work for the dole and rentseeking job search agencies just aren't good enough. The working class should ask for more (no bolsho) and stop voting for weak-policy two-faced Labor cucks.

Why the fuck should he get more? It's there to help, not as an income. He works and is up skilling, he's helping himself. Case closed. Yea he could have it easier, we all could woopee. To bad he had two kids, divorced his wife.He fucked himself up and I sure as well wont pay for it.

Okay, that means he's capable of pulling down 1000+ a week easy.

I work with guys who pull down less than 800 a week and raise 2 kids. Manage to own cars and even sort-of go on vacation.

But seriously - He's a truckie. Subbies earn 100k + a year in Sydney.

He has no excuse.

I feel really fucking bad for his kids tbqh.
>>
>>73673636

This isn't even a Neo-Con or Alt-Right position. He's just plain fucking lazy and incompetent and would be regarded as such in any era.

If he's a licensed truck driver, he's capable of clearing 80k a year easily.

I know drivers working strict 40 hour weeks earning over 70k and turning down work because they're comfortable.

I also know drivers pulling down 100k plus because they're going full retard on the negative gearing front and buying a flat for each of their damn Muslim kids, but whatever.

We already have that in Australia. If you're able bodied and have a non-retard level I.Q. you can get a job that will pay for basics. Anyone saying otherwise is a leech and a liar.

We already have MASSIVELY generous welfare programs, often for people who perfectly capable of working but refuse to. We also have generous welfare programs for low income earners who choose to have children - to encourage population growth.

I'm sick of paying for lazy fucking junkies and stoners to sit at home playing xbox one all fucking day and drinking all night.

I literally share a 540 dollar a week unit with friends. Our upstairs neighbors are on the dole, with a slightly bigger/better unit entirely subsidized by the government to ensure "economic opportunity" by allowing unemployed parasites to move into higher income areas. They spend all. fucking. night. drinking and fighting and playing music. They never work.

It's a fucking joke.
>>

Eh, I know. But they're still getting screwed by having an idiot parasite for a father. He's going to pass that shit onto his kids.

Oh, and this isn't even about being on the dole.

It was common in the early 90's when we had a recession and actual unemployment. My dad was on it for a few months.

What the hell is he going to do when shit gets tough, which it's bound to eventually?

There isn't a culture of shame around being poor, there is a culture of shame around not working and taking tax money.

I do agree though, a system that helps those willing to work to find work is best but where welfare exists those who look to exploit it will exist.

The working class should vote for what helps them but that would go against what want (from labor fucks). The same reason why blacks in America will continue to vote democrat despite it not being in their best interests
>>
>>73683699
>economic opportunity

????

So like, government will provide me with an apartment in a higher income area in the hopes that I will somehow just diffuse and absorb the skills needed to join the ranks of those around me??
>>
>>73683699
>We already have that in Australia. If you're able bodied and have a non-retard level I.Q. you can get a job that will pay for basics.
This misses the point. There are many times more jobseekers than jobs available. Even if they are lazy, it would only be partly their fault because the system doesn't guarantee employment.

Look at it this way - if we had a true full employment scheme, somehow, then that would be the ultimate test of willingness to work. From that basis you could remove existing welfare systems that you see as a waste. So whether you think unemployed people are lazy or not, there's a strong argument to promote universal employment opportunity anyway.
>>
How fucking difficult is to get a decent education and a well paying job, and not being a welfare hog parasite of society? Literally, tell me /pol/
>>
>>73684344

I'm not fucking joking. I wish I were.

They move in a bunch of fucking lowlife bogan scumbags into expensive neighborhoods under the fucking retarded Leftist belief that it's Geography that determines outcome. The same way they confuse Civil Wars waged by religious fanatics with Earthquakes or Floods.

All that happens is that the rest of us have to live around pieces of shit who steal everything and make the neighborhood dirty.

>>73684379

>There are many times more jobseekers than jobs available.

Then why are there so many fucking vacancies here, with massive revolving doors of people who chuck it in because they'd rather sit at home punching cones?

You can walk in and out of jobs here like a revolving door.

>Jobseekers

You mean unemployed. Most of them aren't seeking jobs. My entire street is full of people who refuse to work, will never work, and will subside on welfare, necessitating irritating fucking foreigners to come in and fill the positions.
>>
>>73684179
>I do agree though, a system that helps those willing to work to find work is best
Not just helps them find it but actually gives them work to do. You try to find private work but if you can't get it, you can take a last resort job at minimum wage. It would only be used by a tiny portion of the workforce (and, ideally, temporarily) but would make a world of difference to the genuinely unlucky who can't get a job.
>>
>>73684402

I dropped out of high school at 15.

I earn 75k a year and put in minimal effort and have never struggled to find employment.

If you're well educated and can't get a job, you probably picked a stupid fucking profession.

His 'mental health' is allegedly PTSD related to sexual abuse, yet he's able to get up infront of a crowd and pander to the local back slappers.

regarding $80K, I'm earning around that currently, I'm saving 70% of my take home pay. By no means am I living a lavish lifestyle, but i'm saving a shitload.
>>
>>73687569
Minimum wage is 650 a week for a 38 hour week. If he works part time right now, say 20 hours he earns $16900 a year. He doesn't pay income tax. He most likely gets family assistance and disability. Fuck this guy. He has contributed nothing to this country and gets plenty for nothing.

m8 cunts can say what they want about this Duncan guy, but the basic argument - that giving tax cuts only to people who make more than $80,000 a year is dumb and shitty - is a good argument.

The thing about fiddling with the lowest bracket is that gives everyone a tax cut.

The problem is that the 1% has more money than what is possible through production. Spreading the wealth won't do squat if you don't end the slavery of interest. Production and goods are wealth.
