Your forgetting that illegal immigrants, because either due to fear of being deported or because of inability, either give more to the economy than they take out or break even. And this is before property taxes and income taxes. So illegal immigrants, in theory, if they become legal and now can ask for a good wage and then pay income and payroll tax, the illegal immigrant community will contribute even more to the community they live in.

George Borjas is a Harvard economist and a leading immigration expert. He is responsible for much of the consensus that immigrants are good -- because at one time, they were. But a few years ago he noticed major changes in the data. Instead of getting entrepreneurs and workers, we started receiving parasites. He tried alerting his fellow economists but they refused to listen. Borjas' books Heaven's Door and the forthcoming We Wanted Workers are excellent, substantive reads.
