Not everybody is different, anon.
Weed enabled me to deal with negative stuff by making me realize I could look at my emotions rationally without getting lost in them. Taking that step back from my thoughts and actually observing what I'm thinking and why helped me become a little more levelheaded and less prone to depression. Of course, when you don't take that control and let negative thoughts take hold while you're high, that can be shitty and very counter-productive.
I only started using cannabis in my late twenties by the way, maybe that makes a difference.
