The first pope was Saint Peter, one of the apostles of Jesus. The Church is a continuation of that legacy of the apostles, and through that, holds a direct link to Jesus himself.

Protestants make churches based around greed (calvinism), lust (anglicanism) and other sins because >muh interpretation.
If a crazy fuck said that salvation is earned by fucking dogs' asses he could get away with it because he interpreted the Bible that way.
>>
>>73542494
First thing would be to get in contact with your priest, go to confession before anything else, write down the sins you have committed over the years which will make it easier. After that start going to mass again an take communion.

we all know how it is m8, happened to many of us who didn't get forced to go to church by family.

you're young, maybe 12-13, still developing, you find church boring and don't understand stuff. can't wake up early enough, don't want to bother getting dressed. in short, you don't think it's important.

some people continue this way for their entire lives.
others wake up and realise that they would like to go to church.
just attend mass, that's the first step. maybe do some reading of stuff that you didn't understand when you were younger.

the good thing is, you rediscovered your faith from your own free will.
>>
>>73543302
You didn't answer my question. where do any of these doctrines come from the apostles? Why did Peter at the Council of Jerusalem (who if the church teaches that for a council to be valid it must be led by the Roman Pontiff) have to obey the judgement of Paul? If Peter was infallible, and the sweet Christ on Earth as St Catherine of Sienna calls him, why was he allowed to err as a leader? This would contradict what VI teaches about infallibility.

Heresy (as defined by the RCC) has been taught ex-cathedra a number of times, see pope Honorius and monotheletism. Papal infallibility and the indefectibility of the church are just a myth.

>>73543410
I know, I was raised in an ultra-traditionalist breakaway sect called FSSPX. They recognize the Pope but do not obey him which is contrary to Et Epistola Tua by Leo XII, but they do it because the church changed its teachings. If Catholicism is true it wouldn't change like that. The cognitive dissonance among all Catholics, traditonal or otherwise is blatant and hypocritical.

Vatican I says that in all matters men must be submitted to the authority of the Roman Pontiff in custom and discipline.

>>73543427
Not if the Pope declares it isn't. Usury was a sin, eating meat on Friday was a sin, but they aren't anymore. The church used to teach that everyone non-Catholic went to hell no matter what (Trent, Florence), now it teaches that Muslims worship the same God and bear hope of salvation (lumen gentium).

>>
>>73544875
I am no longer Catholic obviously, but I grew up in it and still have a very good appreciation for the Latin Mass. I was even head server for an ordination mass one time. Catholicism is beautiful but these symbols tells us more about ourselves than God I think.

There is a lot of suspicion about it and people tend to hate on them for holding to the old ways. We had a hard time getting into Catholic school here in Québec because the Bishop did not recognize us. People stigmatize FSSPX people as conspiracists, reactionaries, but most are just regular, good people. They can be sort of clannish because they were treated so bad though. Some of the priests and bishops can be hardcore. My family was extremely hard, for example I was not allowed to speak to girls or go out at all after I was caught kissing a girl and holding her hand when I was 14 (lasted until we moved houses almost two years later). Though that is not my grudge with the church, I got over that, but the intellectual contradictions is my problem.

However it is born in the contradiction of disobeying the Pope's wishes which go against traditional Catholicism to preserve the tenents of traditional Catholicism. Studying that helped me to realize the contradictions in all of Catholicism.

>>73545299
I dont have the books in English with me, but if you look up Epistola Tua and Est Sane Molestum and recognize and resist (SSPX position on Vatican II) it says that we or any priests have no right to judge the teachings of or disobey the Bishops/Pope. Which would mean the FSSPX is in disobedience.
>>
>>73546425
but even if the society is in disobedience I believe studying VII they are quite right that the church has gone through a substantial change of doctrine. it's a catch-22 that i could never work out.

sorry for bad English btw
>>
>>73546086

citations needed.

What do you guys think of the previous Pope? He delivered a lecture in German where he quoted the last Byzantine emperor by saying:

>"Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."

This caused so much butthurt in the Muslim world that there were even fatwas calling for him to be executed for insulting Muhammad.

>>73546211

Well, there is a chance now for the Lutheran countries because of the high concentration of athiests in Scandinavia, for example. Has the church declared such regions to be mission territory?

I agree with Sanborn that VII is a substantial change, it's quite obvious to any who is honest with themselves. SSPX positon is a contradiction. I even was a sedevacantist for a while. However and after studying more and more church history I just realized that there were numerous contradictions in Catholic beliefs to begin with, especially having to due with the primacy of Peter. Doctrine has always changed and evolved and I no longer see the Roman Pontiff as being the only arbiter of truth.

Start reading the Bible anon. Have you read it before? If not, I recommend the New Revised Standard Version (Catholic Edition) or the Douay Rheims version. Another edition /pol/ would also recommend is the Orthodox Study Bible.

When you read the Bible, look at what is in the scripture and compare it to what's happening in life. I also recommend looking up miracles and saints to understand how God can work in your life.
