Which reliable introductory books and articles on Islam does /pol/ recommend?
Although we have weekly-based threads filled with thousands of hideous citations taken directly from the Quran and from Hadiths, I keep in mind that SJWs will always insist that we are taking those citations out of context or that there's some other explanation whatsoever (e.g. these were just historical descriptions of what happened not prescriptions; those rules were somehow revoked by later words of Muhhamad; etc), I'm quite aware that many passages are fairly unambiguous, but I really would like to have some knowledge about which are the main schools of thought, what they teach, which are their opinions on Holy War, what Hadiths do they use, how much they're bound to these views, etc.

I'm muslim background but non-religious myself. It's true that you need context applied to it. The Quran is basically Arabic poetry. A lot of its influence and respect in the Islamic world comes from the fact it is very good poetry and it's taken far less literally than people assume.
Islam isn't a monolith of values and traditions, they're all pretty different and blended into indigenous cultures.
If you want to read the Quran you have to read it with context added or you're just wasting your time.
The infographics you see recirculating on pol are a waste of time The best version for this is probably the Quran translated and annotated by Ali Quli Qara'i.

you actually need something with anecdotes or you'll just interpret it your own way which is meaningless. You need to know the interpretations made by the different sects. pol's understanding of Islam is laughable because everyone goes to blogs and this echo chamber. You actually have to get books on teh subject
