It wasn't about muslims specifically. Both us and Serbs were doing ethnic cleansing in Bosnia and the west intervened because civilians were killed en masse. We actually had jokes about how many villages one needs to burn down to get a promotion. Serbia being at war with the whole balkans was naturally blamed for everything so we kinda got away with it.
