Welp I guess this it then... the happening /pol/ has been waiting for
>>73394842
You think St. Helens was bad, wait until you see Rainier.
>>73394842
>the happening /pol/ has been waiting for
A giant Hitler is going to come out of Mount Saint Helens and squash all the Jews, niggers and spics?
>>73395088
IT BEGINDS
>>73394842
St. Helens already erupted and nothing fucking happened.
It's not even going to erupt again. Neither will Yosemite, and there won't be any major earthquakes, because life is boring and nothing ever happens.
>>73395040
Yeah, and it fucking sucks for me, I live only 20 miles from rainier
>>73394842
>Trump gets BTFO by pyrocastic flow

Yes please let this happen
>>73395088
I'm kind of hoping it will be like the nutsack alien from half-life, the SJW triggerings as a huge nutsack of the patriarchy crushes them would be glorious to watch

This conclusion ruined my morning
>>73394842
Arizona Bay
>>73395169
Yosemite is a glacial Valley cut into a batholith of solid granolite. It could never "erupt".
>>73394842
>And is in the process of recharging
>>73395232
Well fuck, I'm in Tacoma.
>>73395169
Thinking Yosemite and Yellowstone are the same place.
>>73394842
meh, st helens has had two-three moderate eruptions since it blew it's top. this is nothing compared to iceland's activity.
happening status: NOT

What really happened:
-So will this super-mega-giga-hyper volcano ever explode again?!?!?!
-There has been a couple of earthquakes, some might say there was even a "swarm" of earthquakes, but what these people don't know is that this is fairly normal and poses no threats at all. It is completely normal that volcanos stay pretty much alive, as one could say, because of techtographical shifts, the volcano slowly starts recharching itself. Howewer, it would take 3 million years for it to be active again.
-So this will kill us all, right?! OMG!!! Gotta go and write this in National Geographic dear god omg mgmgogmgmg4!!!!!444
-
what would /po/ do if this was actually the end?
tell here

So what they always do.
Chill and origami, man.
Chill and origami.

Blah blah fuck you they both start with Y big fucking deal I've been to both and hiked and backpacked and camped across them I spend 3 years in the Grand Tetons hunting and fishing for food I know my way around the outdoors unlike you two stupid fat fucks who sit around and play world of warcraft all day and haven't seen the sun in years trust me buddy I know more about the outdoors than you so shut the fuck up
>>73394842
Geologist-bro here. NO need to panic.
Helens is a volcano.
>>73395169
It will erupt again, it has erupted recently. I was just there a few years back even, and the park had just re-opened after another eruption.
>>73396098
Helens is a regular volcano. As it exploded irregularly, it killed plenty of people as a major event... but it is incapable of doing that again. Any future eruptions will be like pic related (year 2004 eruption.) No one is really concerned over Helens except the national park officials who need to keep visitors safe.
The real "HAPPENING" volcano of Washington State is Mount Rainier. It will only hurt the Puget Sound region though.
My geology teacher back in 2014 that Washington has been over due for an earthquake. He said it will probably be a 9, cant remember the name of the fault though.
>>73396243
>As it exploded irregularly, it killed plenty of people as a major event
bullshit. last major explosion killed only 25 people.
>>73396229
Yo, semite
Calm down
>>73395088
No you idiot. There would be a super volcano style event the ash cloud of which would cover the earth and settle Down on all drinkable water and farmable crops, blocking sunlight, dropping temps and bringing about the end of the human race.
>>73396336
Juan de Fuca plate, it is sub-ducting beneath the North American plate. That is out in the pacific ocean and deep beneath the Washington State. Melt from that plate (and mantle) burns its way up through the crust and creates volcanoes like Helens, Ranier, Adams, etc.
Basically the fault is a fuel source, but the volcanic activity is nothing to do with the major earthquake you are thinking of (which is true.) That will originate out off the coast.
>>73396385
25 is plenty of people as far as U.S. volcanic eruptions go... I said plenty, I didn't say "hundreds!1!"
>>73396537
Helens is not a super volcano and is incapable of producing irregular ash flow.
>>73394842
muh dik
also when will the Big One destroy California, half Mexico and Hollywood? it should hit the rift valley, so no tsunami danger in the Pacific I guess
would be delicious unless it will trigger the whole ring of fire
>>73396588
You should also point out that in geological terms, "overdue" could mean tomorrow, or it could mean a few centuries from now. Or more.
>>73396674
>>73396674
So its nothing then
This is good. It's a geologically active region.
Earthquakes mean there is tension being released. If there were no earthquakes, tension is being built up. That's when to be afraid.

>>73395088
>88
>Post about Hitler
HE RETURNS!
>>73396783
You are correct. It could also never have another ever again. Stress and strain can be released without having a high level event (though statistically it is unlikely to NOT have it.)
>>73396824
Pretty much. I love my field and I just hope to help people understand that places like Helens are not to be feared.
Here have a picture of my helicopter flight into Helens. Glacial melt from the two glaciers that are in the caldera.
>>73394842
was the vpn fag telling the truth?
>>73348906
>>73397169
Glaciers around the re-emergent cone.
>>73397289
No because Yellowstone is not part of the Cascadian system. It is fed by a hot spot (think convection in a boiling pot) and not the Juan de Fuca plate's melt.
>>73397438
he only said it might be yellowstone, he didn't know exactly what was happening, just that FEMA was preparing for it
This is a sign that USA must vote for Trump
>>73397509
While I won't disagree that he could be talking Yellow Stone - this current thread has nothing to do with YS, geologically.
Which is essentially the point I was making. TLDR: OP was either not educated on Helens, or is fear mongering.

What about Mount Baker?
>>73398418
Baker is its own little threat bubble. Like Helens, worse situation would be local damage (within the state of Washington, or specifically, a few counties.) Thanks to close observation and a general idea what to look for in these towering assholes of the earth's gooey interior, any eruption for it would come with ample warning (up to weeks of heads up.)
Damage from a major pyroclastic flow would be pretty devastating locally. Depending on where it flows, the worse possible outcome would be a flow that hits Baker Lake. That'd pretty much flood an entire river valley, destroy all the dams in the area, and so on so forth. Billions of $ in damage, but nothing you couldn't fix.
>>73395232
I'm only at JBLM for another year and a half.
Please Rainier-chan, don't erupt in the interim
