You guys discussing Trump's position on torture are discussing a red herring.
This is analogous to the abortion question, which was frame as a hypothetical situation where abortion was criminalised.
He was then asked if then women should be also punished for it, to which he answered something like "that's what it means to be a crime, right, people that does it have to be punished of it.
The terrorism question was framed in general in the same manner, something like "should U.S. resort to torture if it was to prevent another 9/11 style attack".
HIs answer was very reasonable and basically "he would not be taking anything out of his toolset" and "whoever opposes it, for instance, waterboard, is a very big hypocrite because the other tool being used today is killing people with drones, sometimes for possessing a cellphone deemed suspect".
And he is right, the U.S. doesn't have the high moral ground right now and it is not because of torture.
Think about it, the sitting president every other week sign orders giving the OK to kill people Pakistan and Yemen simply for being in the vicinity of someone deemed a threat.
How is that OK, blasting people left and right based on mostly remote and flawed intel, and torturing someone that (in the hypothetically framed question) could prevent the 9/11 would not be OK?
Trump is very intelligent in his answers, he answers the question exactly as they were framed and stir up controversy keeping his name in the limelight but usually the position he defends is not the ones people think he does like in both the abortion and in the torture cases.

The primaries aren't over. It isn't a victory lap, he's not at 1237 and Cruz, Rubio, and Kasich never technically "dropped out" and can still throw most of the delegates around at the last second. It would be suicide for the GOP, but they want Clinton to win more than Trump -- she works for the same establishment as Cruz and Krystal.
