Whenever one part has gone to an extreme where it's own citizens are hindered, the other part will bring them salvation.
We must do this or rick humanity forming one global race with nothing but themselves to keep a check on them.

Industrial society is a fart in the wind entirely caused by the fact that we found a bunch of free energy that has formed over millions of years. Now we're burning through it in about 200 years in order to make 'totally awesome quadrocopters', and then it's back to a world population of about 1 billion.

Chinese dominate the planet. They've conqured Australia and a large amounts of North America and Africa.
What's left of the USA resembles modern day Brazil, western Europe is an Islamic wasteland while east-Europe and Russia are doing ok but they're nowhere near powerful enough to compete with China.
Despite the fall of the west Isreal survives and is 4x as large as it is today. The rest of the middle-east is pretty much the same although they have much better weapons to kill each other with. Same story in South America.
The parts of Africa which are not ruled by China have reverted back to the stone-age. India does not become a super-power, they only exist because China allows them to and they still don't poo in the loo.

We're harnessing renewable energy. Soon we'll be able to produce the energy required for those industries.

Yeah you're right, if this pipe dream called cold fusion becomes viable and becomes viable before the loss of the infrastructure needed to support it's implementation.
