To start with, I know it's a meme that you've probably heard a lot but they legitimately do take American jobs. People always say that "they do the jobs Americans don't want to do", but in actuality the reason they have those jobs is because they do them for a fraction of the pay. And because they usually get paid under the table, they're not paying taxes on their income. While they're not paying their taxes, they're using public services, going to hospitals, and sending their kids to public schools.

Legal immigrants on the other hand, so long as they're not like Achmed who wants to bomb your stock markets, is really good for the economy. Newly immigrated citizens are more likely to establish businesses, which encourages economic growth. Plus, lower-class immigrants are typically willing to do jobs that most natives are too proud to do, like manual farm labor, etc.
