The allies did not hold the line until the US stepped in.
Most of continental Europe was conquered by Germany, Hitler decided not to invade Britain. If anything held the line it was the English channel.
As for the eastern front it was a brutal war of attrition, again the balance had tipped before the US got involved.
The US timed things well to come into the European theater at a time when victory was all but guaranteed and casualties would be minimized.
A major reason for the US even involving themselves in Europe was to prevent Russia sweeping over western Europe.
WW2 was won by Russian lives, american lend lease definitely helped though.
The pacific war is a different case though.

No it wasn't. Thats patently false. The huge ass interceptor was became an outdated concept while that was being developed. The US at the time was developing the F-108 which shit all over the arrow's specs. but it was cancelled because ICBMs suddenly because a thing and the bomber threat was no longer deemed the big thing.
The F-4 phantom was flying in 1958 and it was a much better aircraft than the arrow- by every metric. it was faster, had longer range, was actually manuevarable, carried same amount of armament, was cheaper etc. etc. etc.
canada didn't buy the f-4 though for whatever reason, but it and subsequent aircraft made the arrow completely obsolete. the 'legend' status canadians have built around the arrow is just kind of sad.

By WW1 the Ottoman Empire was known as "the sick man", they were an agrarian society trying to compete with industrial nations, they had to import literally everything to keep up, Turkey doesn't really have any major natural resources to get rich quick on like Arabs do either.
Turkey still is involved in combat pretty much 100% of the time against the Kurds in the east but it never really gets reported on kind of like how Russia is always dealing with Chechnya.
