Yeah BF4 actually became playable a year and a half after it's initial release, so hopefully DICE will use everything they learned from it and apply it instantly this time around. Still, I've never really liked the map selection in 4, something I think 3 really shined with.

That kind of stress is meant as a short term thing. Something is trying to kill you, so your brain does a bunch of shit that has the sole purpose of letting you survive your encounter with it. Then, after a short period of time, either you have killed it/driven it away, you have escaped from it, or you are dead, and you return to normal(or are dead). It works perfectly in nature, but modern war is pretty far removed from nature. Primitive war wasn't, really: actual fighting didn't last that long, and if someone was going to kill you it was almost certainly going to be someone that you could see who was in your face and allowed you a chance to try and defend yourself. In a modern war, you can be killed instantly, at any time, by someone who is so far away that you may not even be able to see them at all, and with weapons that you may have no chance to avoid. And this situation can last for months without any sort of break or pause.
It essentially sends the fight or flight response haywire, since you can't do either, and the situation takes forever to resolve. Some men go absolutely insane because of it, but even the ones who seem alright usually have a little PTSD(there are some who legitimately have none, and they're usually nutters). War stretches the human stress response to its breaking point, so it's not surprising that it often breaks.

I really like BF4's maps. Siege of Shanghai is one of my favorite maps ever. Though I don't know if anything will top Heavy Metal from BC2, that map was GOLDEN. (Though I did get burned out on it from all the servers that had it in the rotation like every other map)
