I'm curious, those that receive certain types of welfare in the USA, do they get classed as self employed if they're actively engaged in a program to get back into employment? No we don't have a job center here so it's different. Unemployment is just money given to you if you lose your job that you have been at for more than period of time. You can then collect unemployment money as a percentage of your previous income for a different periods of time. After this period, you are considered "not actively searching for work" even if you are, which means the unemployment numbers are skewed

canada why do you want to shill so hard? Damn son, relax.
One thing that is interesting about this Jobs recovery. is that though the nominal number of jobs has increased, the average real incomes of workers havent increased, and the percentage of people in the labor force (which is not simply 1- employment) has shrunk. This oversupply of labor partially explains why there hasnt been wage growth in this economy.
This is why the US continually focuses on "Jobs". Jobs includes part-time jobs. Obamacare actually created incentives for small businesses to get rid of full time jobs with benefits in favor of part-time jobs. I'm not saying that ALL the new jobs are part time, but there is definitely a sizeable portion.
Income hasnt increased? Workforce participation is down? Focus on the "jobs" number. Because the nominal value of "jobs" unweighted by their productivity, sector, or economic value is a completely vacuous statistic.

>>73175128
acutally, now that I'm looking at your graph, it doesnt even say what you think it says.
If a person has 2 part-time jobs, they still fall into the "usually work part time" camp. Getting another part time job keeps them in the same category, This graph says nothing about the NUMBER of part time jobs versus the NUMBER of full time ones...

Over 16m net jobs were created under Reagan including the recession with a smaller total population. Net jobs under Obama is still under 10m. Under Obama we have not had a single year of 3% or greater GDP growth, a first for any President since the government started keeping track after WWII.
>>73172768
He "reduced" the deficit by spiking the deficit in his first year and then thinking Republicans were bluffing with sequestration. Obama and Democrats voted for "Bush's" TARP, which was a one time (thus one year) budget item of roughly $700b, most of which has been paid back. Obama and Democrats unilaterally passed the "stimulus" in 2009 and kept spending at those inflated levels until sequestration.

We have been over this before leaf. Very few people can afford to retire. Tons of people work while collecting medicare and social security. You don't have to be retired to get either. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-05-05/recovery-paradox-job-cuts-2016-are-highest-2009-initial-jobless-claims-tumble
>So for all those who suggest that all is well with the US jobs picture based on initial claims reports, here is the latest report from Challenger according to which the pace of downsizing increased in April jumped by 35% to 65,141 during the month of April, from the 48,207 layoff announcements in March.
>In the first four months of 2016, employers have announced a total of 250,061 planned job cuts, up 24% from the 201,796 job cuts tracked during the same period a year ago. This represents the highest January-April total since 2009, when the opening four months of the year saw 695,100 job cuts in the aftermath of the biggest financial crisis in modern history.
>Contrary to popular belief it is not just energy: "We continue to see large scale layoffs in the energy sector, where low oil prices are driving down profits. However, we are also seeing heavy downsizing activity in other areas, such as computers and retail, where changing consumer trends are creating a lot of volatility,” said John A. Challenger, chief executive officer of Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
>That said, the energy woes continue and the sector announced another 19,759 job cuts in April, bringing the year-to-date total to 72,660. That is up 26 percent from the 57,556 energy-sector job cuts announced in the first four months of 2015. As energy bankruptcies are only set to accelerate from here, we anticipate many more delayed layoffs from this moment onward.
>Computer firms announced 16,923 job cuts during the month; the highest total among all industries. That total includes 12,000 from chipmaker Intel, which is shifting away from the traditional desktop and laptop market and toward the mobile market. To date, computer firms have announced 33,925 job cuts, up 262 percent from a year ago, when job cuts in the sector totaled just 9,368 through the first four months of the year.
