Now thats interesting.
I'd go with the four considering its most likely that the other guy would get emotional and kill his four as well, thus totalling five total deaths.
I pull the lever.
One death is better than 5.

That's easy. Pull the lever and don't observe the train until it's had time to pass to the other side. It will tunnel through the people without actually interacting with them, and when you do observe it, one train will be moving east on track A or B, and another train will be moving west on track C.
Stakes are raised now.

Easy peasy. You should just move the trolley out of the way. (The problem doesn't say you can't.)

Either 4, 8, or 5.
Both actions from neutral, 4.
One action, 8.
No action, 5.

Jews first, obviously. Always concentrate on the most dangerous threat first. Then you can worry about mopping up the stains.

You don't pull the lever, that way you minimize the risk.

Don't pull lever. It's not my place to decide who lives and dies.
>>73163119
I am aware of that but the fact that I am there at that moment and have in fact have a lever means a decision can be made.
If i do not pull the lever then it would not even matter if I was there or had a lever to pull, thus the justification of my logic as flawed as it may be still stands. (Any choice is better than none)
Make a choice when given one, either pull some "multi-track drifting" or just pull the lever.

Both pull: four die.
No pull: five die.
One pull: eight die.
If I pull, two possibilities are created: four people will die or eight people will die, or on average six people will be killed by this action. Statistically fewer people will be killed if you pull the lever and you will also eliminate the possibility of your death.
Really this is a question of six deaths against five, so you should pull the lever.
>>73165112
I mean to say you shouldn't pull. I actually had it right the first time, got confused, and changed it without thinking.

That pic reminds me of a true story from the '20s or '30s (might have been earlier or later I have no real idea on the date desu senpai)
>Guy works railway line
>His job to switch tracks
>Young son is there with him
>Stationary train on one track
>Unscheduled train is coming along
>Guy has to switch track or the train is going to plow into the stationary one and most likely kill everyone on board
>Notices son is on the empty track
>Doesn't have time to do both, he has to choose between switching the track and killing his son BUT saving the lives of everyone on board
>Or saving his son and letting the train crash and causing death and serious injury
>Opts to kill his son
It's sort of like Sophie's Choice, but you know, actually true.

You are there and are given THE CHOICE of 'pull the lever' and 'do not pull the lever'.
I would not pull the lever, as I make the choice to guarantee my own safety. It is unfortunate for whomever it is that does die in the process, but them being in that predicament is not stated to be my fault, so I can walk away knowing that them being there in the first place was out of my control.
