It's 2 years, and minimal training. The only people who stay in the military after their 2 year required service are fuckups or dropouts, it's generally frowned upon to be in the military there. A lot of what NK has came from the soviets/east germany, but NK is basically propped up by China to act as a buffer/counter to the U.S.
