About 1.5 years into the process. Average wait times for hearings are around 14 months. Hopefully I get my letter setting my hearing date soon, because I can't take much more of this sitting around the house shit. You can't make any money while you're waiting for your hearing because it would show that you're capable of working. You have to wait til you get approved, then you get put into a work trial period where you can work and collect full benefits for like 6 months or so.

In principle, you're right that's how it works. While the economy in Ontario has seen little growth, it has neither contracted either, at least in consecutive quarters. People still work and the unemployment rate is below the national average. There are a lot of 'revenue tools' the province employs to keep funding programs without issuing a broad spectrum tax. 0.5% more on tobacco, 2% on gasoline, a little more on alcohol, a new minor fee here and there that won't be noticed too much to cause much outcry. It all adds up, and people are all too willing to pay it. You see we rarely cut programs here and the province operate very much like an European welfare state with indirect wealth redistribution via nickel and dime taxes and fees. Does over-taxation strangle an economy? It sure does, but as long as the economy doesn't contract drastically, my NEETdom is assured for a very long time.

I'm a neet, age 21 living with parents. I have no ambitions, real goals or motivation at all. I have major depression, to the point where I'll go days without eating or getting out of my bed besides going to the bathroom.
If I had anything to push myself with, I'd want to go to school and work, but even the most ridiculous things like returning phone calls or making a sandwich are chores, even though intellectually I know it shouldn't be a big deal. Even as a freeloader, I'm almost too proud to file for disability, and my parents definitely are too proud to let me. I'm seeing my psychiatrist on Monday to probably change meds around, possibly get a stimulant to see if it helps. I'm not like sad or suicidal, and if anything I would be more likely to just not wake up while homeless.
