Not to scare people but we need to be more concerned with a coming war. When I was growing up in Fort Mc during the 80s, it was still common to be taught fallout and nuclear war safety from a preemptive Soviet strike. Why? Because of the oil production starting to kick off well at that time. I remember being told that a small 1kt bomb could hit Syncrude and put all of the municipality in a disaster not just from nuclear fallout but from all the heavy chemicals that would be kicked up in the wake. Now that the city and basically the whole municipality is evacuated, something could kick off.

The evacuation order for the residents south of High Level will be lifted effective 12 noon today. Residents will be allowed to return home, however, are asked to remain on “immediate alert” in case the situation changes due to the expected weather conditions. The fire is listed by Alberta Forestry as being held at this time.

That's going to cost a fuck ton of money in fire fighters and retardant to put out.
Here in the US if you start a forest fire from negligence or because of illegal activity (burning on high risk days, shooting guns, etc) you'll be charged the entire cost they spent to put the fire out.
There's been people slapped with $1m + bills for it.

We care about Fort Mac, but richest city in Canada? Must be on some sort of technicality, because, you know...Vancouver.

From the coverage I got on CTV last night you would think Fort Mac was 75% non-white. There was a Somoli guy, an Indian (dot) woman with a bunch of little cow worshippers, some Arab guy who they interviewed AS HE WAS GETTING free food at the side of the highway some white dude was cooking for people. The white guy wasn't worth of an interview.

What we know: there was no lightning, fires usually happen late summer and not now. Rachel Notley say's that she is ashamed of the oil and gas industry. The NDP overtaxes sending industry running to the Dakotas and Saskatchewan while overspending when tax revenue would actually be higher with lower taxes. they are willing to go billions of dollars into debt but they just so happened to cut the wildfire budget by 15 million. Now that oil is going back up they have a new explanation for the destruction of Alberta, how convenient.

If terrorists were smart, wouldn't they just start a bunch of simultaneous fires in nearby cities while all of canada's firefighting resources are busy trying to put out the fires. I mean a single operative could probably start 20-30 fires in a single day with a minimal chance of being caught during the chaos.

Imagine if the cities that people retreated into were set ablaze causing further mayhem. Good thing terrorists are dumb as fuck.

STFU, city boy. You don't know shit.
Used to get this shit in Northern Ontario - clueless but "concerned" Torontonians all upset about forest fires, not understanding how they start, why they're mostly good for the forest, etc.

We left the house in Thick wood at 3pm, went to a buddy's thinking it was gonna blow over. Left there after they went under voluntary, around 5. Didn't hit the main road confed until 6:30/7, and weren't out of the city until 8:30. Took us until 2am to reach wandering river, which is usually a 2 hour drive.
People are all together. Seriously crazy, random people getting in people's videos from the side of the road. People who made it out filling up gas cans to go back and fuel people up.
Weirdest was leaving town and seeing that smoke, knowing it was probably done.
