I think it did happen, but not on the scale of six million people. I doubt we'll ever know the true numbers. Also, I don't believe everyone of them were planned to be executed, I'm pretty sure the Nazi's had a plan of relocation (apart from the Madagascar one) for the Jews held in camps after the war was over.
