Personally, I believe it should be adjusted to minimum living standards determined by the government.

That being said, a normal range would probably be $7-15 depending on the area.

We need a new currency and system that isn't fucked over ultimately. Trump's ideas of labor protection will naturally work to inflate the price of labor, though. He doesn't need to dictate a new minimum wage.

>“You have to have something you can live on. But what I 'm really looking to do is get people great jobs so they make much more money than that, much more money than the $15.”
Consistent with the narrative of bringing jobs back to the US so that the job market can absorb skilled people and offer them a good standard of living instead of just upping the minimum wage to unreasonable levels.

>“If you start playing around too much with that lower level number, you are not going to be competitive,” he said, before reiterating that he's “open to doing something” with the federal minimum wage.
Cautions against raising the federal minimum wage too much for fear of destabilizing the economy but saying he's open make give a little.

Sounds like sound policy to me and I don't really see how this is a flip flop rather than showing he's willing to give a little and get bipartisanship deals done without compromising his vision for the economy.
>>

If Donald Trump is smart, and he's not politically, he would get rid of the federal minimum wage and replace it with a federal mandate on the states to conform to regulations on how to calculate a minimum wage. Each state would set up their own minimum wage based on this standard and mandate municipalities to raise their minimum wage according to their economic situation.

Nothing wrong with raising the minimum wage if it's done intelligently rather than arbitrarily (ie. "waaaaah! want moe monies" + random higher number picked).

Better way: Pick a reasonable percentage of the median income and make that be the minimum wage. The percentage could be set nationally, but the median income would be based on each state. Recalibrate it maybe every 3 years. If wages rise, minimum wage rises. If wages fall, minimum wage falls. No politics, no guesses, no arbitrary numbers, just a formula.
>>
The thing about liberals is they don't understand that their fucking policies is what caused all the problems they complain about

Minimum wage=being able to afford and live with a minimum standard of living.

DESU the chaos and innefficiency of not doing so isn't worth it.

Either the worker gets shafted hard or the workers rise up and demand by force a fair wage.

Not only that but the crime that is caused by abused workers causes massive increases in crime which is just more inefficiency for the system as a whole.

It's in everyone's best interests to have at least a somewhat livable minimum wage.

There is no such thing as a "scientific" or "non-arbitrary" price control. Describing whatever particular number you want the state to set prices at (in this case labor) as "reasonable" or saying it's done "intelligently" does not magically circumvent the laws of economics.

This is what he said:

“I’m actually looking at that because I am very different from most Republicans,” Mr. Trump said in an interview on CNN’s. “You have to have something that you can live on.”

Mr. Trump has locked up the nomination despite repeatedly breaking with Republican orthodoxy on issues ranging from abortion to trade.

The billionaire businessman said he was studying the minimum wage issue and did not know if the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour should be raised to the $15 per hour “living wage” advocated by Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernard Sanders.

Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee, has said that the federal minimum wage should be raised to as much as $12 per hour.

Mr. Trump said he didn’t want to tinker too much with the minimum wage because it would hurt “competitiveness.”

“What I really want is to bring jobs back so they make more that $15 an hour,” said the New York tycoon.

Mr. Trump also predicted that he would win over supporters currently backing Mr. Sanders, a Vermont independent and self-described democratic socialist who has led a insurgent movement of young voters dissatisfied with the political system.

“I’m going to get a lot of his supporters,” said Mr. Trump.

which wasn't the right until very recently. The lower classes were always the ones getting screwed over by illegal immigration while the upper class had the freedom to interact with "diversity" on rare occasions in a controlled environment, all the while enjoying the benefit of devalued labor cost. It's only in the past 10 or so years that they realized they can force push it through by calling everyone against it racist and perpetuating witchhunts against said "racists".

Minimum wage is worse than rape desu

http://www.inequalitywatch.eu/spip.php?article99&lang=en
http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/let-data-speak-truth-behind-minimum-wage-laws

Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and all the Nordic countries have some of the lowest poverty and unemployment ratings in Europe and they have either no minimum wage or a very small one. Minimum wages hurt workers.
Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, and England all have high minimum wages and have high poverty rates. The correct thing to do is to allow unions while abolishing the minimum wage

As a Trump supporter we want Sanders to do as well as possible in the remaining primaries. I watched the interview twice today on CNN.

So what he said is that he doesn't care about the minimum wage because he wants to bring HIGH paying jobs so people don't have to settle for 7.25$ for a living but instead have opportunities for jobs that pay higher than 15$ an hour as proposed by Bernie. Wolf then asked him if he could raise the minimum wage to which Trump replied, I'm open to do SOMETHING with the minimum wage, he didn't explicitly say an increase of whatever.

He also called Bernie a socialist and said he will get many of his supporters come November.

A lot of Trump's vagueness comes from the fact he realizes he's going to have to negotiate the details of whatever plan he puts forward.

In his particular case, however, we are simply seeing Trump beginning to moderate himself in order to oppose Hillary. Considering the detail he displayed in his positions on immigration, foreign policy, and trade, he won't lose his nationalist message. Especially given that trade & foreign policy will be part of his attacks on Hillary given her Neocon Interventionist history and her association with NAFTA and other trade deals with have stolen American jobs and encouraged outsourcing.

There's a lot of fear in the Democrat Part that Hillary is going to be facing an upward battle on those two particular issues, as well.

THE FATE OF EMPIRES

http://people.uncw.edu/kozloffm/glubb.pdf

History, however, seems to suggest that the
age of decline of a great nation is often a
period which shows a tendency to
philanthropy and to sympathy for other
races. This phase may not be contradictory
to the feeling described in the previous
paragraph, that the dominant race has the
right to rule the world. For the citizens of the
great nation enjoy the role of Lady Bountiful.
As long as it retains its status of leadership,
the imperial people are glad to be generous,
even if slightly condescending. The rights of
citizenship are generously bestowed on every
race, even those formerly subject, and the
equality of mankind is proclaimed. The
Roman Empire passed through this phase,
when equal citizenship was thrown open to
all peoples, such provincials even becoming
senators and emperors.

The Arab Empire of Baghdad was equally,
perhaps even more, generous. During the
Age of Conquests, pure-bred Arabs had
constituted a ruling class, but in the ninth
century the empire was completely
cosmopolitan.

State assistance to the young and the poor
was equally generous. University students
received government grants to cover their
expenses while they were receiving higher
education. The State likewise offered free
medical treatment to the poor. The first free
public hospital was opened in Baghdad in
the reign of Harun al-Rashid (786-809), and
under his son, Mamun, free public hospitals
sprang up all over the Arab world from Spain
to what is now Pakistan.

The impression that it will always be
automatically rich causes the declining
empire to spend lavishly on its own
benevolence, until such time as the economy
collapses, the universities are closed and the
hospitals fall into ruin.

It may perhaps be incorrect to picture the
welfare state as the high-water mark of
human attainment. It may merely prove to
be one more regular milestone in the lifestory
of an ageing and decrepit empire.

>And how many of those countries have illegals flooding in willing to work for nothing, therefor not incentivizing employers to raise wages, because sending home peanuts lets them live like kings back home?

Sending money back to mexico is a problem, but cheap labor is not

Let's pretend for a moment is was robots landing from outer space, not just willing to work for a few dollars, but for free. People who perform jobs that these robots can do can not possibly compete and are displaced.

According to people who don't know shit about economics, even though we gained robots in our economy, we did nothing but make workers lose jobs and impoverish the population even more.

And applying the logic backwards, we should destroy the technology we already had before the robots came, trade chainsaws for axes, so people who were displaced by technology can find work again.

Now back to reality. Demand is endless. People will always want more, and when one need is satisfied by robots, they'll want something else. Displaced workers are now free to satisfy that need. But it will take time and be painful, sometimes to the point of being revolutionary, like going from an agrarian economy to an industrial economy, or an industrial economy to a service economy. But eventually the standard of living is increased because we are doing shit more efficiently, which increases the amount of goods and services and the consumer's purchasing power.

>>
>>73018711
>Implying anyone is surprised that Trump is a centrist on economics

No he's just being retarded. No serious economist believes protectionism and tariffs are a good idea except in special circumstances like impending warfare with a trading nation, or 3rd world countries that need to develop their own industry. Until some radical breakthrough in thinking happens, trade is solved, and free trade is the answer.

Minimum wage isn't so cut and dry, but serious economists would never recommend a high minimum wage and they prefer other safety nets that don't fuck with the price system.
