This of course leads to plenty of places with huge amounts of ready-to-burn material and eventually, very difficult to control fires like this one.
Post-burn forests are neat to see, though. It's amazing how fast Yellowstone's burn areas have been regenerating in some places, even if in others you're driving by and it's entire hills worth of standing burnt trees already surrounded with ground cover.
Horrible as it is for the town, it's going to be amazing to watch over the next decade seeing the recovery of the forested areas that are getting fire-cleared right now.

The amount of money that Western taxpayers waste on funding the East's incompetence is mind-boggling. Even with equalization payments and all of the Maritimes' federal welfare recipients, they're still massively in debt, and all of that for dramatically WORSE government services than the Western provinces. But when the West is in trouble? When the oil price collapses, unemployment rates double and entire cities are literally on fire? Citizens of oil producing regions are excluded from unemployment benefits, the Western provinces are still expected to pony up non-existent oil money for equalization, and the military spends two days smoking a blunt with Justin Trudeau instead of evacuating Western families in life or death crisis.
