>How to vote
Polls open at 7am tomorrow. You should have received a poll card telling you where to go. If you haven't then phone your local electoral registration office as soon as polls open to check you're registered. If not, tough shit. Once in the polling station speak to the people sat at a desk, giving them your name and address. Mark an 'X' in the box next to the UKIP candidate (or select them as your '1' choice, depending on what the instructions say), fold the ballot paper in half, then place it into the ballot box. It is your choice as to whether you tell the little old Labour teller outside a) to fuck off, b) that you voted UKIP, and c) that the day of Our Nige is coming.

>It's only a local election
A local vote for UKIP strengthens support for the Leave campaign. Unless you want to be sucking on Angela's dick in two months' time, vote.

Godspeed lads.

hoping UKIP get a good showing in England and the SNP get another majority + some councils in Scotland.

UKIP+SNP are the two most interesting parties in british politics. lib/lab/con, especially lib/lab, especially /lab, must be punished for their sins.
>>
NI lad here.

Looks like the corrupt DUP and SF/IRA cabal will remain in power albeit with some minor losses in favour of the eursosceptic Traditional Unionist Voice and UKIP.

Greens, europhilic Ulster Unionist Party and far left eurosceptics People Before profit also expected to increase by a seat each.

AMA lads if you wanna know the details.
>>

Sorry I forgot you, lad. I didn't know there were assembly elections in NI. It's barely been mentioned over here. Hopefully Gerry's little nigger tweet problem will do him a bit of damage with his voter base.
>>
>>72969708
What's it like voting in a power-sharing election anyway?

I have some trouble imagining a parliament where you're forced to co-operate with people you so strongly disagree with. (2007-11 minority in Scotland doesn't really count; other than independence SNP policy is/was pretty compatible with the other parties overall.)

What would happen if, just for hypothetical sake, 100% of the vote went to one side of the constitutional issue [i.e. everyone votes unionist or republican, with no votes to any of the other party]? is the system designed for this, or does it just go "yeah but that's unlikely so we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

>>
>>72969982
Well, the positions of First Minister and Deputy First Minister are required to be split between unionist and nationalist designated parties so in the advent of a total one side swing, the Commons would need to change the St Andrew Agreement Bill in order to allow a government to be formed.

In terms of voting within power sharing, most don't bother due to the eventuality that most main parties are forced to form government together, however, nearly everyone gives their second and third prefernce votes to parties like the TUV in order to fuck shit up a little.

Only exist to carry out the spending details of the budget in local areas e.g. parliament votes increase in money for health, councillors vote on what local areas. to put it. Generally useless but can give an indication of local support for parties.

>>72969957
Unfortunately not big lad, nationalists are too brainwashed by their marxist shite and the lack of any other credible leftist/nationalist party means they will only continue to grow.
>>
>>72970528

Literally don't matter a jot unless some nutters get in like when the Green Party fucked Brighton up. Local results are used as a gauge of public opinion of the national parties as a whole, though, so a massive swing in any direction could result in party infighting which is always fun.

The Welsh Assembly is irrelevant. It debates important issues such as how much to fine shopkeepers for oppressing a Welshman by saying "hello" in English. The NI Assembly achieves fuck all because it's forced to form a sort of coalition between the party that wants to leave the UK and the party that wants to remain in the UK. The Scottish Parliament has actual power, but its result is pretty much confirmed SNP majority.

Scotland has a PR voting system for Scottish Parliament elections.

In a UK election they split the vote [FPTP], in Scotland it's far more difficult. [Not outright impossible, there's a chance green/RISE voters trying to court SNP supporters with calls to use their 2nd [PR-list] vote disingenuously could split the vote, but in standard circumstances it's not an issue]

i) Local elections for county councils. Basically the smallest administrative assemblies in the UK. Basically useless in political terms aside from setting local spending.
ii) Elections to the London Assembly and Mayorship. Essentially London's local council except it has stronger powers and is larger.
iii) Elections to the devolved assemblies. Closest things we have to state parliaments. Scottish Parliament is about to be dominated by a pro-independence party, Wales will be reduced to a minority government challenged by euro sceptics and Welsh nationalists and finally, the NI Assembly which is far to confusing to explain.

But still....10 parties? I can't even imagine that

In America if someone tries to start a conservative third party, they just end up stealing votes from the Republicans, handing the election to the Democrats and working against everything they believe in. Same thing on the other side.

Also, only 2 parties are able to successfully wield the massive financial, political, and press influence necessary to drive significant numbers to the polls. Even the idea of a third party getting more than 1% of the vote is outrageous

I think it's because of the way the system is set up. Because in Britain all the relevant parties have a seat at the table in the final government, they can afford to have multiple parties.

Whereas in the US only 2 parties can exist, because any more than that would split the vote in the winner-take-all election.

Possibly do ok at the local elections due more to low turnout than anything else though.
Maybe 1 seat in Scottish Parliament if they're lucky.

Set to do pretty well in Wales though, maybe netting about 15-20% of the vote which would put them 4th but very close behind 3rd and 2nd (likely to be Tories and Plaid).

This one isn't so much about Nige doing well, it's more about hoping Labour shit gets fucked up and maybe breaking the SNP majority in Scotland (unlikely though)

>>72973311
He's in the lead in the polls I think but the mayoral election doesn't use first past the post so it's possible the Tory block will win off 2nd choices off UKIP people and possibly greens since he's big on eco-friendly stuff.

To be honest it could go anyway really, the turnouts always really low, I think the highest for the mayoral election was maybe 40%. It's possible that a load of people will vote just because they don't want a muslim mayor but we'll see

But did you know the Green Party and Libertarian Party are actually aware of this?
They're basically working together (Greens taking votes from the Dems and Libertarians taking votes from the Reps) under the Fair Debates Comission to avoid being accused of helping the opponents win?
https://www.fairdebates.com/

The only problem they're facing now, is you know, the establishment literally forbidding them to approach the Debates.

sturgeon's a genuine leftie, sure, but the overriding pressures that make the SNP [and most scots] soft on immigration/refugees are that it's a costless ploy to make yourself look good.

In the case of the party: how the fuck can you call a party who's leader holds that sign racist?
In the case of the people: you look good supporting that kind of thing while knowing you still live in one of the whitest parts of the world.

Assemblies if you're in NI, Scotland or Wales.

You might not even have any in your area since it's not all council seats up for grabs.

>>72974817
Under Tony Blair all of these powers were devolved to Holyrood when he gave you your representation.

Holyrood has the power to abolish these acts, the UK parliament has deemed a bunch of tweets made by people in England that were arrested as illegal because they didn't fit the criteria of the communications act and one guy recently is suing the Met police when he said something on twitter about talking to some Muslim woman after Brussels attack.

And there is no major public desire to do so. If there was there'd be much larger outcry.

I do not personally support the acts, but they were implemented before the SNP came to office and have almost certainly been overlooked while in office. It's unfair to pin the blame on them for being anything but lazy. "This is what the SNP have done with them" implies the SNP created the law, when in reality they've just ignored it.

If the man from Rothesay wants to take the Scottish justice system to the ECHR over it, they're more than welcome to.

Half the reason I have a faint like for the SNP [and "defend" them by explaining that they're a normal political party no worse than the prior devolved governments of Scotland, instead of a mystical perfect thing or a walking disaster machine] is moments like these.

George "Devolution will kill nationalism stone dead" Robertson
John "There will be no referendum" McTernan
Jim "We will lose no seats" Murphy

Their mixture of being no worse than Labour while crushing Labour, a party of multi-decade domination of the political scene, into dust is delicious. Especially because Labour are barely able to contain their disgust that the parliament that was supposed to be their permanent toy has been stolen by the SNP.

We need you to help us trigger the left and establish ourselves as the true party of the right, so please go to this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/MHOC/comments/41tznv/join_a_party/?sort=new and ask to join the Nationalist Party.
