I wish we still lived in a time when you could walk into a factory and get a job almost guaranteed. My only success finding factory work in my life was through an employment agency, after 3 months of searching on both their part and mine, and the job was only seasonal and paid minimum wage.
The job was essentially worthless, after I found permanent work in a restaurant as a dish washer that paid more and gave me better hours I left immediately.

Now fast forward with more experience and more certs. I work for the railroad working 40 hours with full benefits making $1200 a week but no lay offs with 2 weeks of paid vocation
So quality of life has improved since 19, only took 9 years. Granted, that i dont make as much and probably wont compare to the computer related field with the same amount of time and effort to obtained their certifications.. But stress is minimum and the job is stabled.
TLDR: Have to take risk and get your foot in the door on the field you want to exceed in. It's only way to make a career out of it. Have to dig through shit first before you can strike oil.
