Whilst I mostly agree there are two points:
First the bisexual frank thing didnt just come up with the biographer; the college episode made it pretty clear and that was the first time we saw Frank being genuinely emotional with anyone.
Secondly I remember reading an interview with the writers and they said they specifically looked for a typically republican state that had consistently elected a democrat representative due to the democrats in that area being more conservative than the repubs, it existed and served the show well in its portrayal of party lines being pragmatic more than ideological.

This was surprisingly redpilled - sure it had the main character as a clumsy white male and he had sassy minority sidekicks, of which the girl was obviously a steely badass. Furthermore the main enemy was a supernaturally gifted hardcore girl.
BUT it still came down to Ash doing everything and saving everyone, they hired an actress with big tits and even pointed it out. Ash was making sexist and racist jokes throughout.

If it was the driving cause then why were several hundered thousand slaves not freed in Union states? The US Civil War was about unification, freeing the slaves came along later in the war/after.
