as for the transsexual part, i dont believe it is a cultural thing. you have too many cases of it in different epochs/ cultures, there are studies that show that different kinds of treatment (including waiting until puberty is over) seem to work, although suppressing a condition with pills isnt really something id call healthy.

There is a scientific basis for intersex people clearly, because they are born with both a penis and a vagina.
However, the fundamental problem is the social construction theory of gender, which is the idea that all behavior that humans do as an expression of their sex, are simply cultural and social imprints on their mind, and don't have any biological basis.
This is obviously true to some extent, I mean, it's pretty clear that it's your upbringing and social circumstances that determine much of what you consider to be "masculine" or "feminine" behavior.
The problem as I see it, is that just because something is socially constructed, does not mean it is possible to change radically, nor does it mean that you can simply decide one day to be something you are not.
