Most E Asians look similar, have very similar cultures, and they all have dynamic economies. Why hasnt there been a push for an east asian union?
Part of the reason Europe became so powerful during and after the renaissance was because many European nations started to value collaboration with other European nations they saw as equals. They realised their common cultural and religious roots. Art, science and philosophy in Europe flourished as nations combined brainpower and also competed with one another. Royal families married other royal families. Europeans saw themselves as borthers. Why hasnt there been a similar movement in SE Asia, considering most East Asians like Europeans have similar cultural roots.

Truth is that Europe is far more homogeneous. There are few countries that are poverty stricken, most share the same values, and many are Christian nations that speak a fair amount of English. Even basic shit like most of EU countries have the internet and indoor plumbing.

The EU has been more or less successful so far because individually each country is pretty weak economically. Japan, Korea, and China are already strong by themselves and have no need to work with each other. Not that they'd want to because they're all so bitter about the past.
Japan try to create Asian solidarity during WWII though at least according to their propaganda the thing they were doing was a reaction against western imperialism. Of course that was a lie and they just wanted to conquer Asia for themselves.

East Asian countries modernized or are in the process of modernizing more recently than Europe and in a span of time much shorter than it progressed for Europe because they are still playing catch up with the West. Politics between one country and another there can vary hugely and keeps populations fractured despite whatever cultural commonalities they have. Religion and/or lack of it is the other barrier toward a more homogeneous regional identity. It is way more varied there.
