What happens when someone who is poor (but not necessarily destitute) steals from a small mom-and-pop store who is struggling? What happens when your NEET roommate steals food from you because "their survival was threatened?
This is 100% analogous to something like welfare for example. Welfare is fine for people who are between jobs or in school/training to upskill. The problem occurs when other people who don't upskill/search for a new job also get welfare. In this country, if you have been self employed in the past 2 years, you don;t get welfare unless you payed into a special fund (not realistic for a small business owner or farmer). If you never worked a day in your life nor payed a penny in tax, you can get a free house, education, and healthcare.
