>>
>>72802567
Not really. Tide has turned against the moderate rebels but Syria faces some big obstacles like liberating Aleppo and defeating ISIS.
>>
>>72802567
It always calms down for a while and then something happens and the cycle keeps continuing
Although you're right, recently people have began to realize that Assad was right
>>
>>72802681
Well we got our share of wars recently and sieging a city is better for attackers then defenders you just starve them out so its the matter of time when they will take Aleppo, there is just a problem of ugly publicity that civilian casualties can create for mainstream media like we had in Vukovar and Sarajevo.

>>72802687

Thats good, propaganda was bad and couldnt follow the situation on the terrain im glad for that
>>
>>72802890
There has been a ton of bad publicity about the Syrian Army and Assad so I don't know how they can really be hurt by it at this point. Besides, now Syria has Russia backing it up directly which is unfortunately something Serbia never had. So while it is a big obstacle to overcome, I can't see it play out in any other way.

Morning lads. Anything special?
>>
>>72803182

We had a saying in war roughly translated to "Sky is too high and Russia too far" Syrians dont have that disadvantage, also Russians were in very hight debt towards west in that time so they could only sit and watch now its diferent at least Syria can enjoy that support.
>>
NATO underestimated the political and military infrastructure of the Syrian Government.

Can't help but be happy for the underdog team whose coming out of this on all 4.

>>
>>72803375
"Chicken's not a bird and neither is Finland a foreign country." say the russians nowadays...
>>
>>72803663

Well if you watched it closely we have basicly same issues now, our geographical position is fucked, now Russians wants Serbia to be their land of influence in Europe and NATO wants us in to ensure complete dominance in Balkans, but our goverment leaders play Titos politics so they try to whore with boths side but history showed us that never works, you cant sit on 2 chairs. We will never enter NATO because every family lost somebody in that war and NATO bombing but we also hesitate to go full Russian becuse our economy cant survive another sanctions so basicly we are fucked and expect bankrupcy in two years, but thanx for caring :)

>>

>>
>>72804005
Creating a rocket that can hit that far with the manufacturing abilities that ISIS has is virtually impossible. So, probably safe to assume just regular BM-21 rockets.
>>
>>72804039

Yeah they used same recepies they did to destroy Yugoslavia in Ukraine and Syria, only one thing they didnt forseen and thats strong Russia and China now wants their part of the "world superpower" cake also, next 10 years should bring some interesting developments on global levels, gonna be fun to watch.

Algiers, SANA – Algerian Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel said that his latest visit to Damascus carried a number of messages the most important of which is declaring support to the Syrian people in combating terrorism, which Algeria had suffered from, stressing that his county condemns terrorism in Syria or any other place as terrorism is identical everywhere.

Algerian media outlets quoted Messahel as saying in a press conference held in the Algerian Capital that his visit to Syria coincided with the 70th anniversary of the French colonialism evacuation from Syria, which brought great support to the Algerian Liberation Revolution and embraced great numbers of Algerian people, adding that the visit also aims at delivering a message to the Syrian people that there is no other choice but the national reconciliation, political solution and unity.

Would you Russian shills please fuck off? And for the Westerners who buy this crap, you are the ultimate cucks. If you actually believe that Russia and Syria are your friends and helping you why not try examining the bigger picture. Everything Russia does is to undermine us using twisted logic rattled with whataboutisms and strawmans. They want to come into our countries and destroy everything that makes us ourselves. You are the cucks and can't even stand for your own country and culture. These threads have to be started by Russian and Syrian shills while Turkish shills come in just to shitpost. Who the fuck is talking about friends? We support the side of the conflict that is fighting terrorists, that doesnt mean jackshit about friendship.

Most people here prefer Russians and Syrians to stay in their own nations, just because we support them doesnt mean we want them here.

Newsflash: a quick settlement to this conflict that does not involve even more areas of the country being ruled by violent jihadist extremists, means LESS IMMIGRANTS FOR EUROPE, dumbass.
>>
>>7281967
>If you actually believe that Russia and Syria are your friends and helping you why not try examining the bigger picture
Nobody ever claimed that you babboon. People however look for actual proofs (tm) now and it turns out almost everything MSM claim is bullshit. Not to mention this, as well as Ukraine, was a western plot to undermine Russia, and now that Russia fights back it's somehow concerning. Russians didn't start this shitstorm, CIA did. Syria wasn't a bad place before the war happened, and now it's in shambles because SOMEONE wanted to fuck with Russia, Iran and indirectly the EU via rapefugees.
Europeans with half a brain want Syria to become stable again so the refugees can be shipped back there, and as it is the only beacon of any stability is the Syrian government, as giving Syria to moderate beheaders will result only in another Libya.
And then there's that part where government-controlled regions already house ~8mil refugees from the war zones. So the great wonderful plan to let FSA win and bomb places like Damascus or Latakia to shit means ANOTHER giant wave of refugees coming for Europe.
So kindly fuck off with your bullshit US interests. Europe shouldn't give a fuck about them.

Assad armed ISIS hoping they would focus on the FSA which is what they did for a little while. Now they're out of control and he can't contain them.
Putin has no way to win, he has effectively put himself in a quagmire (in Syria and Ukraine) he can't back out of while his country is deteriorating economically. Russia isn't exactly too fond of the Netherlands either, so why don't you try actually sticking up for your country. Assad is a terrorist regime.

what do you guys think?
>>
>>72824989
Allegations about a supposed Palmyra deal are made up, 600 people died there - something even pro-opposition sources like SOHR confirm.

As for buying/selling oil, electricity, and other things from ISIS, this was known already. Assad also indirectly "supports" ISIS by paying salaries to government employees in ISIS territory, of which ISIS then takes 50%.

Remember, these documents were leaked by an FSA-linked group.

That according to text messages and files in Palmyra Turkish government is actually working with ISIS.
According to thousands of Toyotas and western weaponry, Europe is working with ISIS.
These documents surfaced a while ago, and implied that even before Palmyra was liberated.
To make a case out of this, it has to be put forward at UNSC, including giving the documents to Russians.
And that as we all know is not going to happen.
Also, casualties in Palmyra were high for both SAA and ISIS, so I don't think you can say they "work together" unless of course they agreed to kill 100/300+ of their soldiers.
>>

Pro-FSA source

https://www.rt.com/news/337969-isis-palmyra-mines-documents
>“At least 3,000 explosive devices were installed in the city,” the sapper explained to RT. He said ISIS created an almost invisible interconnected network, partially hidden under hard paved roads, which could blow up the entire city.
Pro-Assad source

There are many reports about the battle from both pro-opposition sources and pro-Assad sources which in no way paint the image of ISIS simply packing up and handing the city to Assad. It's made up.

Now on the buying of oil, electricity, and all that - that's confirmed, I remember Assad himself sort of admitting it in an interview some time ago (the buying of electricity from ISIS). Often oil facilities and power plants and the like are still staffed by government employees, but "taxed" by ISIS.

here was no outlet for political change in Syria before the war, and Assad's regime was cronyistic, corrupt, and casually violent. While it's difficult to say what the breakdowns of opinions in the Syrian public were or are, the protests which Assad massacred certainly had broad popular support among the Sunni population which is the large majority of the overall population.

Assad had the option to repeal the "Emergency Law" under which his family had exercised authoritarian rule for decades, and hold elections. He would likely have retained his seat as President. But instead he chose to massacre and arrest and torture anyone who asked for the repeal of the law.

And now his fanboys a-bloo-bloo all over /pol/ complaining about how all this is really da Joos fault and he's a good boy who din do nuffin just tryna protect his cuntry

Democracy can't work in places like Syria. Not an actual western democracy. They need something more akin to Putin's Russia, aka de facto dictatorship with democratic props here and there to keep a grip, else the country devolves into Libya.
You can either have a strongman leader, or several fallen non-countries consumed by constant war. No other outcome is possible unless you literally turn the region into a protectorate with constant military presence.
>>
>>72829116
yes its not a full democracy and nobody in the west has the right to decide it has to be, I think its good now, theres political opposition but they filter out Muslim Brotherhood, Hizb ut-Tahrir etc groups and tell them to fuck off from politics

...which happens in Europe too actually, group with extremist ties cannot enter elections.

>Norway to send Special Forces to train "anti-ISIS" "rebels"

http://breakingdefense.com/2016/05/carter-strongly-objects-to-house-ndaa-norway-to-send-troops-against-daesh/

>In a last minute-announcement before his meeting with 10 anti-Daesh coalition members, Defense Secretary Ash Carter told reporters that Norway has made a “very significant” pledge to contribute to the fight. He also hinted that American troop commitments would increase in the future.

>“Norway’s decision to deploy special operations forces to Jordan to train vetted Syrian Arab Sunni fighters and to send a medical team to Northern Iraq bolsters the coalition at a critical moment in the campaign,” Carter said in a statement after his session with reporters aboard the E-4B aircraft he flew here in. “The added forces are a welcome contribution from a stalwart ally, and another sign of the growing momentum in the campaign to defeat ISIL.”

>Carter also said that Norwegian Defense Minister Eriksen Soreide has now been invited to attend the Wednesday meeting in Stuttgart, joining the 10 other states coming. At filing time, officials could not confirm if she would attend.

>Assad armed ISIS hoping they would focus on the FSA which is what they did for a little while. Now they're out of control and he can't contain them.

And guess how ISIS came to be in the first place? It's because Murrica decided to invade Iraq per request by the Oil industry lobbyist, Saudis, and Jews of Israel.

And it got worse once Obama thought it was a good idea to pull our troops out of Iraq. And guess who armed the "FSA" (See: Moderate Beheaders)??? It was our Liberal and Neo-con politicians. Same fucking thing they did with Afghanistan in the 1980's which fucked us over as the Taliban took over that. Had Russia not intervened, then Syria would have gone into another Civil War between the decaying FSA and the Islamic Front (Al-Sham) who's being supported by Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Much like what happened to Libya after Gaddafi was ousted where there is a civil war going on but the Western media has been silent about it.

You have no fucking idea what's going on in the grand scheme of things. Your world is of black and white, good guy and bad guy but you ultimately live in a fantasy world.

Cessation of hostilities in Aleppo to be announced in coming hours - Lavrov

“To make the ceasefire work and make it inclusive, our partners must do everything possible to remove the moderate opposition, which relies on foreign support, from the positions occupied by the terrorists.”

Lavrov also called for an extended ceasefire in Syria. “Of course, there are separate groups who would like to undermine the cessation of hostilities, to provoke an escalation [of the crisis]. We can’t let them do it,” he said.

Lavrov also warned against any calls for a ground operation in Syria.

“Russia is concerned, and not just us alone, about Turkey's shelling of the Syrian territory, continued creation of certain security zones in Syria, not to mention the increasing calls for a ground operation.”

Moscow is convinced “that such calls come from those who are not interested in the real political settlement [of Syrian crisis] and who rely on a military solution.”

“We are convinced that this is the way to a catastrophic situation, and such appeals should be stopped,” Lavrov said.

Generally patience in these things pays off, the bigger the list of causes the less the UNSC/NATO can argue against it. The timeframe fits in the same way, past months now kilis has been btfo and turkish armor gets attacked => now official war with a border sharing "state" that openly said it was invading Turkey.

IMO this is when a buffer zone gets approved. Merkel's already on the team, burgers are being shy and need to be pressured by shit like this. Saudis were on board long time, but too pussy.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-36191243

Russians are calling this bullshit out for what it is
Americans admit Aleppo is run by Al-Nusra and try damage control

The FSA can turn on their salafist friends and get fucking rekt, or they can keep their alliance and le moderate maymay can then be buried.
