A childrens story we all read or heard about when we were little had a surprisingly large impact on how we view the rich. Was Robin Hood's actions of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor socialist?
>>
Yes, the sheriff was the good guy in the original story.
>>
>>72608152
In the story the rich are evil, greedy and imbecile which in real life they rarely are.
>>
>>72608308
I've heard of interpretations that Robin Hoods actually a libertarian conservative who wants to relieve the people of heavy taxes.

The monarchy can be arguably called socialists as well.

But the monarchy is the government and are taking people's money through taxes. Robin Hood is taking back what belongs to the hard working people. He's a libertarian
>>
>>72608225
How does the original story go?
>>
You could look at it like that, but on the flip side you could call it a critique of socialism as well.

The people are suffering because of excessive taxation that goes to a government that cant/won't take care of them.

If they weren't taxed so much in the first place they wouldn't need Robin Hood to steal.
>>
>>72608152
Stealing tax revenue for yourself is petty much the opposite of socialism.
>>
>>72608374
He is.

The authorities in the Robin Hood stories subject the impoverished populace to over-taxation in order to subsidize the extravagant, luxurious lifestyles of the corrupt monarch and his henchmen (the Jewish elite, if you want to take this analogy in /pol/'s direction). Robin Hood gives back to the poor the money that was stolen from them by a government that exists without the consent of the governed. He is no thief.

Interesting question op. Yertle the Turtle. It was my favorite book and I grew up poor so the allegory wasn't hard for me to draw.

>excessive taxation
You know why it was so high? Because John's brother Richard was spending it all funding a war in the holy land. Robin Hood sabotaged the crusades, he was no hero.
>>
>>72608152
>stealing from the rich and giving to the poor

He's stealing tax money from the government. Tell me how that is socialist.

He's either far right or libertarian.
>>
>>72609819
Most portrayals of Robin Hood put Richard in an extremely positive light while painting John as a shithead who misused his power.
>>
>>72609819
not an argument, most taxes were lost in pockets of government due to corruption
>>
>Stole tax money from the government
>Socialist

You're surely not suggesting that the outcome of the crusades was affected by Robin Hood?
>>
What I find hilarious is all these idiots that want to "fight the power" while they are the ones in power.

it represents england taxing the colonies

It is said that [Robin Hood] fought against the looting rulers and returned the loot to those who had been robbed, but that is not the meaning of the legend which has survived. He is remembered, not as a champion of property, but as a champion of need, not as a defender of the robbed, but as a provider of the poor. He is held to be the first man who assumed a halo of virtue by practicing charity with wealth which he did not own, by giving away goods which he had not produced, by making others pay for the luxury of his pity. He is the man who became the symbol of the idea that need, not achievement, is the source of rights, that we don’t have to produce, only to want, that the earned does not belong to us, but the unearned does. He became a justification for every mediocrity who, unable to make his own living, has demanded the power to dispose of the property of his betters, by proclaiming his willingness to devote his life to his inferiors at the price of robbing his superiors. It is this foulest of creatures — the double-parasite who lives on the sores of the poor and the blood of the rich — whom men have come to regard as a moral ideal. And this has brought us to a world where the more a man produces, the closer he comes to the loss of all his rights, until, if his ability is great enough, he becomes a rightless creature delivered as prey to any claimant — while in order to be placed above rights, above principles, above morality, placed where anything is permitted to him, even plunder and murder, all a man has to do is be in need. Do you wonder why the world is collapsing around us? That is what I am fighting… Until men learn that of all human symbols, Robin Hood is the most immoral and the most contemptible, there will be no justice on earth and no way for mankind to survive.

>Was Robin Hood's actions of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor socialist?

Yes, that version is but the real Robin Hood only stole from tax collectors and the government so it's actually anti-socialist.

This because I'm sleepy and don't feel like typing anymore.

No robin hood was against heavy taxation.
The Jew plan was to corrupt the young malleable man of white men.

And those portrayals are wrong. Richard fought a just war, John kept him funded. Both had their part to play.
Though I have some personal distaste for Richard. He wasn't born here, didn't speak English, and spent most of his time in France when he wasn't on crusade. But he removed kebab, and John did an alright job in his stead.

>>72609969
And yet the country, rich folks included, was poor as shit. Half our nobility weren't even in Britain, they were off fighting the Saracens, so I'm not even sure whose pockets you're referring to.

Not to any meaningful extent, but it's still a shitty thing to do.

Robin Hood was Stefan Molyneux.

Came here to type precisely what you said, just probably not as eloquently.

Also: the Prince John, the Phony King of England song is now stuck in your head.
